yeah looks like a MIJ strat, serial would put it at about 1989. I had one that was a lot like that that was a 1985 though.

I can't remember what kind of tuners were on mine, if they said gotoh or if they said Fender. And I never took the pickguard off to look underneath, but everything looks legit to me. I think mine had a thicker trem block on it though.

the heel of the neck has a big phillips head screw in it.

Im not too concerned about the neck cuz it has markings ###

I was wondering about the body cuz there are no markings
It looks like poplar where the neck goes.
the pick guard is very cheap and flimsey.
it has a 5 way toggle that is noisey in spot 1 3 5
do the electronics look period?
or is this a cheesy squier body on a mid 80's japan neck ?
the body is about 1 3/4 thick and maybe 1 7/8 in other spots.

Surely how it plays matters a lot more?

FWIW mine looks pretty much the same. No Stratocaster logo on the head though, Gotoh tuners, MIJ stamped on the bottom of the neck near the bolt, and a switch that can get a bit noisy occasionally and need a squirt.

yes how it plays and looks is important

but I am curious about the technical aspects
and its origins or authenticity. cuz if i wanted a 129 dollar squier
I would have walked into guitar center and bought one.
but i want to be able to upgrade the electronics with quality parts and i dont know if they will fit in this body, or maybe it already has quality electronis????

Apart from the logo, that looks absolutely identical in every way to a 1986 E-series MIJ Squier I had. Bar magnets on the bottom of the pickups are a giveaway.

"Naked" poplar has a slight greenish tinge to it, much like the milled stock you might see at a Lowe's or Home Depot.

The unfinished area in your neck pocket looks like alder to me.

The bridge on mine is just like yours but my tuners say Fender Japan in them. Love my Japanese Strats!

that neck does not go with that body, as you can see the trus rod adjustments are made to be done at the heal, not the headstock, as you can see the trus rod is plugged,
thus no cut out for the trus rod adjustment has been made on the body in the neck pocket.

also there is no way to tweak the relief on the neck, as the trus rod is not accessible with the neck mounted on the guitar.
