LOL, not really. Overseas right now and then when I get home I stay for about 10 days and then head out again, this time to India. I have an nice Ultra neck on the bench and a body that will be on the way from Warmoth. Another build thread? Are people really all that interested in seeing another one?

We're always interested in your builds! You do them right!

Check out youtube clip Gary Moore- Whiskey In The Jar ( Phil Lynott tribute ).
Original Thin Lizzy guitarist Eric Bell is playing a Fender Strat with two Humbucker Gibson
pickups and a single coil. It sounds great.

Also if you have not all ready heard him , Randy Hanson-Machine Gun.
Best strat tone I have heard ,and cover of the great man.

Cheers.

Did anyone try putting Gibson Les Paul/SG pickups in a Strat? How does it sound? Is it a good idea? Does anyone have a video of a strat with gibson buckers? I can't find any on Youtube. I'm thinking of buying a new guitar, and I can't decide between Gibson SG and Fender Stratocaster, so I thought of buying a Fender American Special Strat and putting Gibson humbuckers in the bridge and neck positions, and adding coil split pots. What do you guys think?

Yes, Edward Lodewijk Van Halen.

Gibson pickups are usually meant for darker sounding mahogany guitars. Maybe you could get a decent sound out of an ash body and rosewood board? It might sound a little too thin otherwise. Personally I would go with Seymour Duncans. If you don't like the sound, you can exchange them for another model as long as they are bought from authorized distributors. It's a great policy.

Yeah, agreeing with a number of others ... putting the Gibson-style humbuckers does not replicate a Les Paul. I think that is too be expected, though, as my SG sounds VERY different than my Les Paul. Here is a pick of my project Start with F-spaced Dimarzios (PAF Pro Joe in neck, and PAF Pro in bridge) ... it is a screamer, too.

I know this is an older post but I just found it so I thought I would throw in my experience. First off, I am a Les Paul fan because I like the sound in blues and Southern rock licks. There are certain pedals that humbuckers don't like such as my acoustic simulator. Too much distortion out of the pick ups to start with. I have a Squier 2 Strat that came with an HSS configuration that my son bought me that actually plays as good as any of my Les Pauls even though its almost 30 years old. The Fender humbucker does not sound like a Gibson humbucker so I took out the Fender and put in a Gibson humbucker I had from one of my Les Pauls and for good measure I took out the front single coil and routed the pick up cavity to accommodate the second Les Paul pup I had. My goal was a guitar that I could use for a Strat sound or a Les Paul sound and would also work through acoustic simulator so I ended up with an HSH. I rewired the switch too so that the first three positions were for the Gibson sound. P1=Bridge, P2=Bridge/Neck and P3=Neck, all humbuckers. P4 combines the single coil and the neck and P5 is just the single coil and I blocked the bridge to get better sustain too and no loss of tuning if a string breaks. Although the Squier doesn't sound exactly like a Les Paul it's pretty close. If I only have room for one guitar where I'm playing this is the guitar I use. Its also great when the Gibson breaks a string during a set.

It is an awesome pup. I have 2 LP with those pups, 1 Gibson, 1 Epi, and they have awesome sound. I really can't pick a "best", but I would put the 490s in the top 3, along with Burstbuckers and Probuckers....., then again the Classic 57s are cool too...., hmm.....
