What do you think the deal is on the "antique pearl white" limited edition (479 production run) VG model? Is this Fenders way of addressing the limited color choices of the original introduction of the VG in only sunburst and black. Do you think we will see other colors in the same "limited" quantities just to see if it drives up sales?

Seems that Fender picks a few colors for each model, and I haven't really seen a pattern, other than the 3-tone Sunburst, white, and black being somewhat standard colors. I personally love the new Sienna Sunburst. I just bought a guitar, and that particular model wasn't offered in Sienna Sunburst. But the actual guitar and it's features are more important to me, than the color, so I just pick what I like best, out of the colors offered.

Fender offers a lot of colors, but I'm sure it would be too costly for them to put each model out in all colors. So I guess they just pick out a few colors for each model.

OK then with that out of the way, if I may indulge the forum members in my indecision........

I have the desire and ability to acquire a New Limited edition (antique pearl white) Stratocaster VG for around $1600.00 OR a new American Deluxe Strat. HSS for $1,200.00. My playing abilities are basically - can make a few chords, make my way through a few old UFO riffs. Still a ways to go in the learn how to play guitar mode.

However, I would like to get an electric that I can grow with and will not feel let down due to its inability to do something that "I MIGHT BE ABLE TO DO' in the future.

My impressions so far - The VG really feels good in my hands, They both do, however, for some reason that center pickup in the HSS feels like its in the way sometimes. For the money the HSS offers a lot more in the custom dept. which I may appreciate in the future. The VG of course offers the Roland Modeling aspect.

Where would you lead me?

Brad

I found the VG (for me) to be a novelty, and found myself frustrated by the constantly wearing out batteries, and grew tired of playing with the setting and different sounds. If I was in the market to buy a new Strat in the price range you are considering I would see if I could stretch to a custom shop model or if not I would play the Eric Johnson and John Mayer models.

Good luck

Based on where you are now in your playing development, the VG is probably fine, but looking to the future, the S1 switching feature on the Deluxe HSS presents you with much more diverse pickup combination options. I've been playing for 45 years (my first guitar was a new '63 Esquire) and I really like the versatility that the S1 feature offers. Good luck and keep on rockin in the free world!
