Hi,

I'm building a Strat from parts and would like to fit a pop-in tremolo unit as in the American Deluxe. Does anyone know where I can buy such a unit?

Thanks. Simon

Wilkinson has pop-in trems for strats as well. I have one and I lke it.
You can order at pretty much every online retailer selling guitar parts or find 'em on eBay.

What are you referring to as Pop In :?:
Parts from .... :?:
Are they genuine Fender parts, is the body actually a Fender or a Licensed aftermarket or is it a Squier body :?:
Is it routed out for a two point bridge or a vintage style :?:
And what about the neck :?:

You are not giving us much information so we could help you to select the appropriate parts .

Hi s_rowberry: if you want an actual Fender Deluxe bridge then any authorised Fender dealer either stocks it or can order it as an aftermarket part. Though, as mentioned above, the likes of GuitarPartsResource might be quicker and perhaps cheaper.

The Deluxe bridge is a straight swap for the Am Standard one.

Cheers - C

The trem arm!
Deluxes have trems with pop-in arms. No thread on the arm, you simply push it in.

Get a Wilkinson trem, Simon, they're really good and due to oval screw holes they fit without any body work or drilling necessary.

It's a 5 minute exchange.

While not actually a pop-in, I just got a brand new MIM trem off Amazon.com for $15...even with shipping, it was still cheaper than GC.

Weird, but yea...along with Ebay and such, Amazon can be well worth a look.

Peace,
Jim

The body is an American Standard and all the components are genuine Fender.

I like the idea of a pop-in, primarily because it will be easier to take out every time I put the guitar back in the case!

I also like the fact that pop-ins don't have the plastic tip on the end of the arm.

Smokin' Frets - does a Wilkinson arm just pop into an American Standard trem socket?

Thanks,

Simon

Another vote for the Wilkinson, totally transformed one of my strats by fitting one of those.

Also check out the Callaham trem assy. Also has a pop in trem arm. They are the best IMHO.

Nope! I mean .... it'll fit in but will be loose and if you tilt the guitar forward, it'll fall out.
American Standards have threads in the trem arm hole, while pop-in trems have kinda plastic bushings which hold the arm in place.

Use the entire Wilkinson system and you'll be there! :)

They're as good as Fender ones (if not better) and I'm fully satisfied with it on my partscaster.

Ah, we need to be a little careful what we're talking about here, especially since s_rowberry says the instant removability of the Deluxe pop-in arm for putting in the case is his primary objective.

I think Wilkinson bridges are excellent and I have several different versions from the VS50 all the way up to the various VS400s. Best thing of their kind on the market, to my taste.

However, no Wilkinson bridge that I've ever used has a pop-in arm - though there are some models I haven't used, so I can't speak for the entire list. What's good about Wilkinson arms on the better bridges is that there is a little screw which allows you to select just how stiffly it turns in its socket - whether it drops away when you let go of it, stays put, or somewhere in between (my own preference).

I think that's all splendid. But pop in and out it doesn't. It's a bit quicker to set up than a US Standard Strat bridge, but not much. If popability is what you need it has to be an Am Deluxe or the Callaham bridge.

Cheers - C

I'm gonna use eBay links here, for it's faster than searching several websites. I'm not connected to the seller(s), just wanted to show some. I hope that's okay??

Check this out, Ceri.
If I remember correctly, this is what I bought as well, but mine has an oval screw hole in base plate, so it fits different guitars:

Here's another one:

Another one, modern saddles, oval screw holes:

AHA!!! Found it now! This is the one I put into my project strat, vintage saddles, oval screw holes:

Hi Smokin': ah-ha, OK. Well, they seem to be saying it has a push-in arm and if that's right then that would suit Simon's needs.

Certainly, that's a model I haven't used, from the budget end of the Wilkinson brand. So I can't speak from experience on it. However, I have used the Gotoh branded version of the same thing, and while it does indeed have a non-threaded arm, like GFS are saying about this one, I wouldn't exactly describe it as pop-in - in as much as you have to slip it in and then slightly tighten a little grub screw, just to keep it in place and stop it dropping out in the middle of your Townshendesque stage leaping.

Which is absolutely fine, it's just not quite the pop-in-and-go function Simon is asking for.

But as you say, this bridge may be different. And for €29 he can afford to suck it and see, right? :)

There's so damn many bridges out there with ve-e-e-ery tiny differences!

Cheers - C
