Besides that have you actually tried the floyd rose special? They are junk and not worth buyin. Original floyd rose is the only way to go.

I haven't tried the FR Special, but I'm inclined to agree with you. If your'e going to go through the trouble of installing a Floyd, then you might as well go all out and get a high quality unit.

I haven't had a good quality FR equipped guitar since my late 80's Ibanez RG550. I had a a couple of others through the years, but they weren't even close to the Ibby.

I play blues and blues/rock now mostly, but occasionally I like to play with a tremolo. I considered the Standard, but after playing for 27 yrs, I am finally understanding that quality guitars with quality parts is the way to go.

Although a new guitar is not in the works right now, I would love to see at least one US model with a Floyd. Surely, Fender can fit one in!

I actually owned a mexican strat it was a recent model. The neck and body were nice but the pickups and hardware had to be replaced. Seemed like they used same pots switch and tuners. But the floyd rose special was very sub standard and you have to keep replacing parts with real floyd parts. The nut actually stripped out within second or third week.

Pickups, electronics and hardware can always be replaced, but not wood. I'm more concerned about the wood. I mean, if I can get a Blacktop Strat HH-FR and then replace the pickups with USA Duncan Jazz/JB and eventually the FRS with OFR, maybe it's a winner. Or better still, the Standard HSS-FR, add an extra fret to the neck, route out space for a neck HB, then fit in the same USA Duncans and GER Floyd, and also the regulation electronics changes, and get a winner? Routing out space for a humbucker is a lot less stressful, even for a reputed guitar technician, than routing out space for a Floyd Rose, so I can't use a regular American Strat for the purpose.

My other option for the task is the relatively better equipped Jackson SLX, but I feel the quality will be better on the Mexican Strats than on this one- maybe someone can suggest otherwise.

The Blacktop would be the easier route. While it is possible to add an extra fret (Brad Gillis did it with his heavily modified 60's Strat), I feel that it's overkill. If your Strat has 21-frets, just be happy with it or get an aftermarket neck (and I personally don't advocate putting a Fender decal on it, but that will be up to you).
