swapping out the hss pickguard for a sss pickguard should not be a problem at all, as long as you make sure both are 11 hole pickguards.

I had a 2002 MIA Texas Special Fat Strat that I had . I converted it to a SSS. I changed the pickgard, pickup and 5 way switch. My strat used a 5 way "super switch" that actually split the humbucker when you combined the bridge and middle pickups. I ordered a Texas Special bridge pickup off ebay. When I got everything , I wired and soldered according to the wiring diagram I got off the Fender website and discovered the polarity to the bridge pickup was reversed. This meant the middle / bridge combo couldnt be reverse wound. No big deal. At the end of the day I decided to wire the bridge pickup to the tone pot and leave the middle pickup wide open.I really liked this result.
