I am planning on buying a custom set of strings for my Stratocaster and the largest will be a .070 (with A-Standard Tuning) for the thickest string and was wondering if this size would actually fit through the hole in the tuning peg.

I'd rather not buy the strings just yet as I can't afford to waste money on them if they don't fit.

I know a strat probably isn't the best guitar to use .070's with but I can't afford a new guitar right now.

I can tell you it will, i have done the same thing, although it's not quite a .70, but it's fat and there's no issues. The only thing is the nut needs filing to accommodate the wider strings or they won't sit in the slots and pop out.

Also, depending on what you intend to use it for, i'm guessing heavy if you're in A stan, you should invest in a nice crunchy humbucker, unless it's already got one, of course. I stuck in one from a Westfield LP copy and tuned down to drop A and it roars like crazy, i find it actually plays better with the heavier strings cause it sounded a little tinny before.

Anyway, enough waffle.

Thank you so much. You've saved me a lot of hassle (and some money)

As soon as I get the chance to I am buying a new guitar and then I'll fit it with a some decent humbuckers.

I know what you mean about the tinny sound; it's one of the reason I've decided to get (significantly) heavier strings.

Once again, thank you! :D
