Well....here I go. Decided to make my own left hand version of the famous SRV #1. Bought a MIM 3 tone with poly finish...tried grinding the finish to match....frustrated and did not look right. Stripped the whole thing and started over with some distressing, a couple of stain coats, and then the Nitro finish. Made templates last week and then taped off the guitar and transferred the image to the tape. Lot of patience with exacto to cut out tape pattern. Sprayed it over the last two days. Will let it cure and then finish some of the distressing and rub through and then do some detail staining around the light area where the pick wear is and the new distress marks. Parts are on the way and can't wait to put this thing together and hear it play. I am just learning to play but love working with wood and have always wanted one of these guitars.

Hope you approve :D

First time I see artificial aging done by actually ADDING something (airbrush) instead of removing existing paint.
Cool idea and looks way more real than all those poorly sanded and scratched bodies I see all the time.

I'm looking forward to see the finalized project!

*thumbs up*

Thanks for the kudos guys...I appreciate it...Another update for tonight...

After some more work doing rub through and distressing this evening and a coat of flat lacquer that was still a touch wet. Got to wait on the parts to get here now before I go any further. Need my Custom decal before I go any further detailing out the front. Just put the old guard on so you can see how the lower edge was blacked out in places and raw in others like the original is. The back is pretty much done except the signature which will be a waterslide decal that will be etched over and then removed and hand done for an authentic look of real ink. Neck pictures tomorrow night if all goes well with the finishing on it.

Don't forget to use the correct pickguard as the 3-ply parchment doesn't match.

Neck is finished all but doing the burn mark on the headstock and the decal. Opened up the bridge hole some last night for the right hand bridge and just did a temp fit to see how close I am. I have to plug and redrill the holes since the gold relic bridge is MIA and not MIM spacing. Getting closer and still waiting on some part to arrive. Just put the neck on temporarily with the relic plate and took a pic to see how it all looks together. The signature is a waterslide I put on and let dry then went over and etched the wood...removed the decal and did the signature with real ink which actually depressed the signature into the wood. More to follow as the project comes together...... :D Couple of the pics a bit fuzzy...sorry...still playing with the settings on a new camera..but you get the idea!

Yes...I have TVST62's B, M, and Neck on the way made like the originals with formvar wire. Going as close to original as possible. :D

Well...the pickguard and decals came today along with the new pickups and pots. Finished fitting the bridge also. Just wanted assemble the old pups and switch to see how it looked with the decals. Still waiting on the jack, tuners and aged white knobs and covers which I will age a little more when they get here to show some wear and usage on them. More to come probably sometime next week as it all comes together. Hope to get the wiring done on Friday the 25th. Cya and have a GREAT WEEKEND everyone!!

#1 was routed for SSS.

You can keep the white pickguard if you decide making a southpaw "Lenny" later. :)

Well more parts have arrived. Getting closer to taking this thing to be wired and electrified up. The gold relic Kluson single line tuners arrived yesterday and I got them installed and I aged the pup covers and knobs to make the look a little older. Still waiting on the jack plate. Can't tell a lot with the flash from the camera. Just made them look a little worn and dirty and took the shine off the numbers and letters. More as it all comes together....Cya

nice job, but i do not see the trem hole on any of SRV's guitars, why is yours showing.?
i know his was a righty guitar with a lefty trem on it,
yours is the same just flipped, but with the trem hole showing.
maybe he had his routed for the flipped trem and not used a stock body.?

SRV did route his righty guitar for a lefty trem but he put a plug in the exposed hole.
