Hi guys, I might be a little picky here but I have a question about the backplate of the strat plus deluxe.

I recently purchased a 97 plus deluxe that came with the Fender American "Floyd Rose" Deluxe Locking Bridge:

I read an article by Xhefri that the plus deluxe guitars with the deluxe locking bridge had solid backcovers due to the fact that the strings are not fed through the tremolo at the back. http://xhefriguitars.com/page3.html

However, I noticed that my guitar has a backcover with holes rather than a solid one:

I was just wondering if this was a case of minor Fender manufacturing inconsistency across various batches or was the original backcover replaced?

The guitar has been possibly modified.

At least the back plate was changed. If I'm remembering correctly the back plates on these were plain 3-ply white/black/white so it's possible the original owner just wanted a pearloid back plate and the only one they could find had the individual string holes.

Yeah the colors dont match the backplate is not stock.
They are hard to find with no holes I found them on ebay only in black or white.

If you want it to match your pickguard you have to have it made by Warmoth.

They have aged white pearl but its more expensive

Beautyful axe you have there!
Stunning finish!!

I wouldn't worry 'bout the backplate.
Most players leave them off anyway and most buyers don't care at all if the backplate is missing on a used guitar offered for sale.

It took me 10 years to leave the backplates off but now I finally do it as well.

I also assume that yours got exchanged for a third party one. I wouldn't bother and take it off.

I did a funny little experiment I always left back plate off to do the bomb sounds in star spangled banner.
When I changed pickguard from fender custom shop chrome plated brass to a 3 ply fender aged pearl white I noticed an improved chunky tone from my guitar.

I then wondered if it would again boost my tone to have the back cover in place...
I put it on and again the tone improved.
My only hypothesis is that with the back cover inplace it projects the reverbaration of the tremolo springs to center mass of the body.

Fender did solid aged white pearloid backplates for their Candy Tangerine American Deluxe HSS LT circa 2004/05, though I'm not as 100% certain.

The humbucker-equipped American Deluxes with the mini-floyd locking trems from the 1998-2007 period also came with those solid backplates.

Thanks for the replies guys! The back cover doesn't bother me much but my OCD in me might kick in and would probably make me check with Warmoth if I could get one made!

John C is right again. Even if these came with pearl pickguards the back cover was always white/black/white 3 ply solid covers. Kind of dumb someone would put that cover on there as the strings feed in the top of these bridges. They must have been desperate to cog the trem route to sell the guitar....:-)

I take the back plates off. Yours doesn't match anyway, might as well pull it off. :D
