You could pull a Hendrix or you could just buy an aftermarket lefty neck.

Hello Icantthinkofaname,

Head over to your local guitar store
and try the Hendrix thing and see
if you can deal with it.

For my no.1 axe I wouldn't consider it,
a great part of the beauty of the stratocaster
is the way the original contour body
fits against the player{ergonomic}.

My oldest son also has been blessed
with the curse of the southpaw, we've
seen some challenges over the years,
all in all things have worked out fine.

Cheers.

Personally being a Lefty I would just check out the different colors that are available.

Hi icantthinkofaname. (Good name.)

My best baby is Sienna Sunburst - I love that colour. I used to think Strats just had to be solid colours, till I went into a store to buy one in Fiesta Red... and came out with my HSS Sienna 'Burst, M/N, with parchment plastic parts. Under lights it glows like treasure: you are right to want that finish!

It stinks how left-handers are treated by the guitar industry. They will claim all kinds of stuff about the economics, and often charge you a premium if they do condescend to make an instrument for you. But the numbers don't add up: it is just meanness.

More and more often nowadays, small one-man-band luthiers offer left-handed guitars, without charging a premium to cover supposed costs of extra jigging. So why can't the big boys?

By the way, I'm a left-hander who luckily for me plays right-handed - like Mark Knopfler, Jeff Beck, Gary Moore and many others.

I'm also left handed.

When I was just starting out with drum lessons, my teacher suggested that I learn to play drums (since I was just starting out anyway), with the drum set, set-up right handed. The reasoning behind that, was in case I had to sit down to another set of drums, other than my own. I learned to play with a right handed set-up, and actually it gave me more power for hitting the snare drum with my left hand.

When I started learning to play guitar (on other people's guitar), I did the same thing, since I was just starting out. That way I could pick up anybody's guitar and play. Besides.......since I didn't have a guitar in the beginning, I was playing friends guitars, which were right handed.

Luckily that has saved me some left handed headaches, musically. Everything else I do is left handed.

Fantastic! - I would say that this would be the path to follow.

Back at high school (a terrible long time ago) we had a guitarist who was right-handed, but had chosen to learn his instrument left-handed. Strange. Even more surprising: when he was offered a turn on someone else's (right-handed) guitar he'd turn it round and play it in the left-handed position, but still strung right-handed; so now the bass strings were where the treble should be, and vice versa. And he was pretty good playing that way!

He wasn't actually the first person in history to be able to play "upside-down" (Albert King played like that, if memory serves), but to do it when he wasn't actually left-handed was weird, and to be almost equally good with the strings set up either way around was really a bit odd.

It sounds like you want a custom guitar, and that can get expensive. I recommend selecting from the colors available. Either that, or switch to playing right handed. My son is a lefty but does a number of things right handed because it makes life easier. One of the things he does right handed is playing guitar.

Man, reverse polarity syndrome. I have it when I shovel snow/dirt or rake leaves... I do these things left handed and do everything eles right handed. This guy seems to have reverse dexterity with the guitar?
