I have an HSS American Deluxe and absolutely love it! I got mine new and stuck with the original string guage, so I have't had to mess with the setup, but overall I would say it's a fantastic guitar.

Either will just kill the Blues tones depending on the Amp used. Get the one that feels and sounds best to you. Don't compromise. It either fells and sounds good or it does not. Don't think - "I can make it sound or fell good". Back away from it... it could end up being a money hole. Personally I'm not very big on Deluxe models.

Did I tell you I really like the Blues. SRV models usually sound good. 8)

"its set up with 13s..i play with 10s.is a simple neck adjustment all thats required for 10s?"

NO! Assuming that the instrument was PROPERLY setup for 13's then you'll have to have the nut replaced as well as the neck adjustment! If you put 10's on a nut filed for 13's, you WILL have some serious issues with fretbuzz. Here's the thing...you can always file a nut down for thicker gauge strings (assuming you know what you're doing) but you can't really replace the missing stock in the nut once it's gone.

Now as to comparing the SRV with an American HSS...honestly I just don't care for either. I think the SRV's sound nice enough but those necks are just miserable to play...for me. And as I've stated elsewhere, I have yet to find a stock off the shelf American that I actually like. It's mostly a taste thing but even used, I just don't think they're worth the money just for the sake of having Made in USA on the headstock....they're not THAT good to warrant the price difference compared with other models. With that though, as always and as with ANY brand or model guitar, my advice is to play them...only -your- hands, heart and ears will tell you if it's right for -you-.

Peace,
Jim

thanks for the advice.the american deluxe hss model comes with a roller nut and im not to sure if i would have to do anything or not to it but that is something i was unsure of..im not going to commit to anything just yet.my plan is to line up a few and go try them.like i already said,im going to have to travel a bit to go check them out so i will probably hit up a few shops and feel out all the options fender has to offer.

Just an extra $.02 worth...
If by roller nut you mean the LSR's...I honestly wouldn't pay extra for one. They're not "bad" and no, they don't really require anything extra as far as setup or maintenance goes (beyond a drop of oil every few years) but they're just not that impressive either. I put one on my '96 MIM a few years back and I honestly wish I had of just kept the stock nut instead. A proper setup will take you a lot further than a roller nut will.

Peace,
Jim
