I think it is an 84 strat. Some one correct me if I am wrong but the E and the first number give the year?? Correct? As for the value, I am not the best at this but since nobody answered yet..it is a nice guitar and will go up in value as time rolls along. I am going to make a thoughtful guess..$750-$1250.

This guitar was not introduced to the public until 1986. If you want to know the real year take the neck off and look for a date on the heel. Fender was using whatever was available to cut costs at this time. Including old decals.

You do not have all the original parts on the guitar at present. (String trees, Pickguard-scratchplate, knobs, Trem bar is bent, etc.) So the 1250 amount is improbable. Closer to 750 + -.

^^^ +1 to SNick; I agree about the value as there have been several mods to the guitar.

That's an American Standard Strat; they were "officially" introduced at the January 1987 NAMM show but prototypes were show at the previous show in the Summer of 1986. Production actually started circa October 1986 (at least I've seen a couple of photos of early American Standard necks with October dates on them).

When FMIC purchased Fender from CBS among the assets they got were printed but unused stacks of headstock decals with 1984 (E4xxxxx) serial numbers on them (and even some unused 1983/"E3xxxxx" decals). FMIC decided to use these up on their new American Standard models; the E4xxxxx numbers were used as late as mid-1988. That is why you really have to remove the neck and check the dates for these early ones. Pot codes could also be "off" as of course FMIC also got the unused supply of components like pots, switches, tuners, etc. from CBS in the sale, and it took FMIC until the fall of 1985 to actually start producing USA guitars again - at that time they were only making the USA Reissues, and their production output started out as low as 7 instruments a day (per "The Stratocaster Chronicles" production went from about 7 instruments per day in October 1985 to 150 per day by April 1987 - once the American Standards were also in full production).

I'd say so. Garden-variety MIM Standard Strats usually go for around five bills. For a MIA guitar I think you did quite well.

Assuming your strat is a standard and not a highway one which carries the made in USA logo then you did well if highway then just so so.
As for the OP yeah around $750 tops IMHO :D
