I think I would be finding a small half-round mill-bastard file and cleaning up the roughness of those cuts.

I have a Jim Dunlop reversible ring style slide which they apparently no longer make.
I find it to be of limited use for me because the smaller mass of the slide seems to rob me of some of the typical slide tone.
Here is a company that makes reversible ring types.

I recently learned about the Jet Slide and it looks rather interesting.
It still has mass and appears to be easy to use.
I may get one just to experiment with.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

that is cool. I'm getting a little obsessive about collecting different slides myself lately. I used steel sockets and cheap glass slides forever, but brass is my choice now. Best one I ever used was a glass/ceramic hybrid that I can't find an exact match for anymore.

Yes, as a qualified engineer (albeit long, long ago) you'd think I'd have done better, wouldn't you? But it's actually perfectly comfortable to use, and after 45 years I don't think I'll bother!

Depends what you're playing, doesn't it? Much of what I like/play doesn't need much sustain. Stuff like Lock & Key (by Snafu), any Johnny Winter songs. You'll notice my slide doesn't even cover all 6 strings - doesn't need to for Mean Town Blues etc - I can slide on just 1 or 2 strings if I want. But no, it's not going to do anything by Bonnie Raitt...

Cheers - Peter.

Good thread, ExpatGirl.

All this slide talk encourages me to show you what I've been using since the early 70's. I fabricated it out of a steel sleeve (from an old telephone exchange) and - as you can see - didn't spend a lot of time on finishing it off! I've always used it on my 1st finger - it's the only way I can do Johnny Winter-type stuff.

Purists, look and cringe...! Cheers - Peter.

All of this great slide info makes me envious. I might wanna try this, being a huge Bonnie Raitt fan. I also might attempt it if only just so I can get one of them whojockamacpivots for my fingie. :D
FSB
Makes my thumb pick look inconsequential.
