Hey all.
I stumbled on this video while searching for 6 string bass solos (yep, I'm a bass player primarily).

I really want to know how to get this particular guitar tone. It's definitely a classic fusion tone and I wonder if it's of Mesa descent.

Check out this video. At 1:20, the guitar comes in. How do I get this warm tone??
Snow JAM - YouTube

I stepped away from electric guitar back in the early 90's to play bass and am coming back. I just bought an FSR Strat w/ EC mid boost and Vintage Noiseless pickups. I'm thinking the mid boost could warm things up. but really want to know how to cop this tone. Amp? Guitar? Settings? Compression?

Thanks for your insight!

Just to clarify, I'm looking for the lead guitar tone, not the bass tone.

Thanks!

very Joe Satriani sounding tone. try dimarzio pups( not sure which ones but they all have that sort of sound). look to a solid state amp and most likely a boss ds-1 dist. pedal. and use the tone controls on the guitar to pull off some highs and get that throaty sound.

Sounds "EMG-ish" to me. A little delay, some OD and compression, a bit of wah, and hall-type reverb.

Of course I could be full of it.

sence you have a mid boost on your guitar try this: volume 7-10, tone (with tbx) 2-3, boost 5-10 (just try to boost your own amps distortion into sustain), bridge and neck pups(second position). i can get very very close to that sound through my bdri with my e.c. strat.
