The headstock of this new model seems to be a bit bubbly... or is the decal off canter? Granted I've had a few, but it seems different than previous Am. Special headstocks...

It's not really either one, It is a CBS style headstock, minus the bullet truss rod like the 70's Classic. So your safe, Have another Evans on the Rocks for me.

Well, I'm done with the E.W. for tonight... Cider Jacks, I'm not much of a fan of on the rocks. In any event, I know it's the 70's style headstock it just looks off to me for some reason. Like the bottom of the headstock is too curved or the indent is too exaggerated... or the placement of the decal is too low... something, I dunno.

The radius of the arc does look a bit wonky.

It may be the result of the camera or the type of software the shot was processed with.

I think it is the angle of the headstock and the lighting (foto) and the placement of the decal that tricks the eyes.

All the best,
Robin

Like it's retaining water. A little too big.

Looking at a Classic 70's it appears that the neck is about a 1/2" shorter between the nut and the upper bout of the headstock on the special. at first I thought is was just the lack of the bullet truss rod.

No, it´s not shorter. It looks like that because of the rosewood fretboard. It´s the same thing on the Blackmore Strat, the headstock looks shorter because the fretboard goes up to the bullet trussrod making the neck appear (or the headstock) appear shorter than it actually is.

All the best,
Robin
