I just got a new 70s American stratocaster... I like it but was wondering if the following was normal? I didn't have these issues with my cheaper Mexican made stratocaster.
Several of the slots in the neck that the metal fret bars fit into were etched a little too deep so that on the side of the neck some of the depth of the etched slot is not filled by the metal fret bar... the result is that there is a small pit where the laquer finish did not fill... is this normal?

Also, at the point where the guitar body narrows to meet the neck, about an eighth inch section of the narrowed body looks like it either has a hair line crack or missing laquer... seems that this may be common due to the neck being attached at this location.

I was told that this was one of the last sunburst color guitars as Fender has stopped making this color in the American vintage 70s stratocaster...

Thanks in advance...

If you just got the guitar, I'd take it to a Fender dealer for warranty repair if those problem really bother you. This is the reason why it's best to actually see and play the guitar your buying before you purchase it. When you buy online there's always the chance of having problems.

Ditto, I played a USA 70's strat with natural finish a week or so ago and the frets were tight. I really liked the natural finish so I really got up close and personal to inspect the grain etc.

Hello Smguitar,

I just checked my three guitars,
All have a few pin holes beneath the frets,
but I needed a magnifying glass to see em
so they bother me in the least.

Your other issue where the body meets
the neck, well, that would bother me.

Cheers.
