Folks just looking for your opinions on these two models.I have to admit the american standards these days are pretty darn appealing with the fat 50's.Great value for the dollars. I have been considering a few different models. :)

The two instruments will play and feel substantially different due to the variations between the fretboards and the frets. The Knopfler Strat has an original-spec neck with 7.25" radius and vintage fretwire while the HR '62 furniture is flatter (9.5" I believe) with medium-jumbo frets. They'll sound a bit different as well since the Knopfler guitar has the 57/62 pickups. The HR '62 is the same except for the bridge pickup (I think it's a DiMarzio stacked humbucker). You should spend some quality hands-on time with both guitars before ordering one sight unseen.

I have the '62 HR and I have to say it's an awesome Strat. Arjay is spot on, except one minor point the '62 does have a full set of '57/'62 pickups, the middle is reverse wound, it's actually the '57 HR that has the DiMarzio at the Bridge position. Also the bottom Tone knob is wired to the Bridge and Middle pickups.

The '62 HR also has a fairly massive neck, probably close to the biggest Fender put on a production model, if not THE biggest! So as Arjay points out, best to spend some hands-on time there to make sure that suits you.

I was super impressed with the build quality of my '62HR, beautiful guitar to hold, play, and hear, I thought it was equal to the Custom Shop guitars that were in the shop at the time.

Thanks

I thought the Knopfer had Texas specials and larger frets? I have been looking at HR62 for a while I do not mind the larger neck I have a 58 Les Paul that has a Log for a neck.
I would have considered a new vintage guitar but I find them priced a little high when there some great guitars just below them. However they are appealing.

Thanks for comments.
