I just bought an American Standard Strat. When I got it the bridge was flat on the body of the guitar. However, when I changed the strings, the bridge is not pulling way up on the guitar. How do I prevent this from happening? I wan't it to be flush with the body of the guitar.

Thanks for your help.

Well first of all you can start by tightening the tremolo screws that hold on to the claw of the tremolo. This is located in the back so you may have to remove the cover if you haven't done so already. You have to look for the two screws that are holding the tremolo and are drilled in to body. Just tighten those up until the tremolo is flush with the body again. If you plan to use string gauges over 10, I recommend you add two more springs if your strat doesn't have five already. You can get these springs at your local guitar retailer for pretty cheap. When installing the springs it would be a good idea to loosen up the tremolo claw(while the strings are off or loosened)so you wont have a hard time trying to stretch the spring too got it in.
