It sounded SO awesome.
Those Custom Shop pickups sound awesome.
Maybe I'll go back tomorrow.
My hangup is that I already own a Peavey Predator built in the USA back in 1991. Looks like a Strat, sounds like a Strat. But it doesn't sound as great as the American Standard I tried out today, that's for sure.

+1!

"Almost" is like an also-ran at the Preakness.

Nobody even remembers the nag's name.

I have a 2011 American Strat in Siennaburst and Ash body. I also have 2 USA Predators I keep around to experiment with pickups, tunings etc. They are night and day difference. Buy that Strat!

Buy it! I did. The pups are very nice, unlike any others that I've heard. I find that all of the positions on the pup selector switch are usable for a great variety of sounds. Of course I had to install locking tuners, strap lock buttons and a Callaham block. :D

Don't just buy one, own them all!

I like strats too. I think I own 7 now. 4 Fenders, a CS Jackson, a CS ESP and a MIJ Charvel.

But is in fact, NOT a Strat.

Nor anything near it!

As always this is merely IMO where YMMV.

I surely agree. The pickups on my Peavey sound almost banjo-like.

+3!

The Predator is a Strat copy, not a real Fender Stratocaster.

This black Peavey Predator (not mine) has a hint of EC flavours on it....

No, a Peavey Predator isn't a Strat, but I've got a few stock Fender Strats that can't hold a candle to this Predator.

Yes, it's been modded a bit by one of the guitar royalty here in town, even has a Fender Lace Sensor neck pickup in it. I pull it off the wall frequently.

Sorry, I don't mean to blaspheme, but it's a sweet guitar with tons of tonal beauty.
