Does anyone know if fender makes an exact matching tortoiseshell back plate for the fender deluxe players Stratocaster?
I have the guitar in the deep crimson red and I like the look of the pick guard on this particular red.

I would like to get the exact matching back plate
I ordered a back plate on line but the one I received is more of a brown tortoiseshell than red so its not quite the right color.

I don't want to order another until I know for sure fender has the right color match

There is no way to have an "exact match" for the tortoise pattern, they are all unique. If you order online, most times the one that you get is not like the picture in the ad. I looked through several local stores before finding one that was a close match for my Dlx Plyrs Strat. The tortoise pattern doesn't show very well in a picture either.

yup that's what happened to me when I ordered one on line that I thought looked close to a match ( not a fender brand but an allparts) , the one I got is brownish not so much reddish which is what the pick guard is.

Luckily, since one is on the back of the guitar and the other on the front, you can't see them at the same time to compare. I have even had trouble getting white pearloid parts to match, let alone tortoise!

Good luck!

Unless you buy a sheet and do it yourself, or have a friend or local guy cut it for you.

+1!

I think it's the only solution to your problem.

I certainly don't have the most artistic eye but I would think that even if the pickguard and backplate were cut from the exact same piece of plastic, given the nature of (plastic) tortoiseshell, the two finished pieces could still wind up looking radically different.

As always, this is merely IMO where YMMV.

Trust me......there is no "tortoise-shell police patrol" cruising through neighborhoods and conducting warrantless searches of guitarists' domiciles, looking for mismatched Strat pickguards and trem covers.

Of course if the guitar in question is a hardtail then there's no chance of a felonious mismatch......

This is what I ended up doing with 4 strats. got a sheet and had the pickguard and back cover made. Anything else I bought just didnt match in color or pattern etc. In the end might save yourself some cash as well from having bought stuff that you never end up using. FWIW all parts sheets tend to be darker in color than fender tort. If that is what you are looking for might want to get some sheets from all parts. one sheet should be able to do a pick guard and back plate no problem.

The only problem with that is, the Allparts tortoise-shell pickguard blanks are three-ply.

Real Fender tortoise-shell pickguards are four-ply, as are the matching trem covers.
