Hey Folks .....
Has anyone ever bought a guitar from Guitar Center when the guitar wasn't in warehouse stock and was shipping from a store instead?
I was thinking about buying a guitar and during checkout the website said the guitar would ship from their Detroit store.
I'm a little leary since that would mean it's a guitar that's been played in the store.
Should I let it go and look elsewhere?

Mark

Hi Mark. I've never bought a guitar from Guitar Center but I would assume that unless you are told otherwise, the guitar coming from their Detroit store is not one that was on display but rather one that they had in stock, in an unopened box. You can always call them to confirm.

HTH

Cheers!

Yeah, I just emailed the store and they said the guitar has been out on their main wall. Which means people have been playing it.
It's yet another FSR of an HSH hand stained ash Stratocaster. This is stained in Amber, with a rosewood fretboard.
They also said more should be in their warehouse on January 4th.
Is it worth buying a guitar that's been on display and played?
What do you folks think?

I bought my 2010 FSR American Standard after it had been hanging on the wall for nearly two years and there were no issues. However in this case, with a spanking brand new one available soon, I would wait the four days.

Hope it's not too premature but CONGRATS!

Cheers!

I consider guitars on the wall as 'used'. That's a discussion I've had before so I won't waste time with it. When Fender D/C'd the first generation VG Strat I learned there were a few '08 FSR AmDlx Aged Cherry Burst guitars around. It was a run GC had ordered the summer of that year. In the search, there were two located in the same store, one of which, I was told, was in an unopened carton, which I requested. That was not the one sent.(Of Course). More over, the wrong trem bar was sent. I didn't make an issue of it because the guitar looked fine and we secured the appropriate part. However, should such an opportunity occur again I would be making it very clear to the salesperson that if I didn't get what I asked for I would refuse the purchase and I would also have the salesperson specify so, in writing, when making the inter-store transfer. I have been dealing with GC for many years but have come to learn not to invest too much trust in their staff. What matters to them, at the end of the day, is their production. It's too big an operation in some locales, to put customer loyalty first. For that kind of thing you need to rely on a boutique vendor.

I tend to agree that guitars on the wall are used. Especially when they hang in a bigbox store. On any given Saturday or Sunday, my nearest Guitar Center is a very crowded place. Sales floor people are handing out guitars left and right to people who then play the hell out of them.

Roger that! I'm accustomed to referring to those gatherings as 'the weekend headbanger's ball.' Many moons ago, there used to be a sign in the Sam Ash store I frequented on Flatbush Avenue, Bklyn. It read [i..."PLEASE!!!!"...."[/i]No 'Stairway'"...."No 'Smoke....'..."No 'Sweet Child'....."
