I've had the good fortune of owning a 1970 LP for 35 yrs. It was my first real guitar. I purchased it when I was in my teens. They were much more affordable back then, especially used. Early this year I purchased a Vintage Ash Blonde FSR Strat and was gifted a Tele Standard for Christmas. You can get by with any of these guitars, but you can"t really compare. They are each different in feel and sound. I am fortune to own all three.

Pardon my bad english, I'm Norwegian..

Yes, I did.
I recently bought two Gibson Firebirds.
The sound and playability are awesome, really.

Whenever I touch one of my strats I suddenly feel like "coming home".

I really love my Firebirds but the control positions really s***k!
The controls and the size are what make my Firebirds really uncomfortable for me.
If I wasn't diggin' the sound so much, I would sell them but they fit right between my Strats and my Ibanez heavy machines.

Gibson fans will kill me but I'm honestly thinking about changing the controls to one master volume placed right next to the bridge.

To answer your question: yes, there are great other guitars but none comes even close to the comfort and sexy appealing of a strat. NOT EVEN A TELE, which is just an edgy block of wood!!
But: I'm willing to go for compromises .... sometimes.

I don't "fire" my Firebirds yet but time will show if they make it into my new forming band or if I will use my strats instead.
IF(!!) I should decide that way, the Birdies WILL(!!) get fired!

So, I have played a 90's Am. Strat for the last couple of years. Always loved it!
But then I suddenly got into these old Cream-records and I got an insane craving for a Lester! So I bought myself a Gibson Les Paul Traditional, and I thought I was in heaven.. THIS MUST BE THE ULTIMATE GUITAR! I thouht... And this christmas I had a gig, and I thought I should use my strat for once, because I felt kinda sorry for it lying under my bed!
And wow! What a guitar!! I mean, the playability, the sound, the look! So the past days I have A-B "tested" my old strat to my relatively new Lester, and my conclusion is: no more Gibson for me! The price does NOT match what you get.. Anybody else in here that have the same experience?

1. Your English is excellent.
2. Agree Gibson now trade ob their name and not their quality ... I visited Gibson factory in Memphis and apart from one or two ES335s made there, the rest of the guitars I saw were only fit for kindling!!!!

The white Firebird V is just about the greatest looking guitar I've seen.

I personally don't care much about Gibson. I'm not a fan of the overall feel and design of the LP. As for comparing them to strats? Apples and oranges. You play the body styles you like. When you start abandoning entry level models and start spending more money with either company, you get completely different things for that extra money. With Gibson it's wood upgrades or mostly cosmetic, with Fender it's most likely hardware and feature upgrades.

I'd love to own a nice deluxe LP... some of them have incredible tone... as I love ebony and mahogany... but I know I wouldn't play it because I just don't dig the way it's designed.

Not Really...
I almost daily switch from a Stratocaster to a Les Paul then back again.
They are both incredible instruments.
I get tons of mojo from a strat and back to les paul for the smooth butterscotch sustain.
My Les Paul Custom Classic is one of my favs untill it gets so heavy my back aches.
Then I strap on my Highway 1 and listen to the great sounds its getting.
I love Fenders single coil sound but I still have yet to meet a Fender Humbucker I like.
Likewise I dont think Gibson can touch Fender in the single coil area.
Gibsons 490-498t is about the ultimate combo loud and proud and how bout those 57 classics? :)
While the plunk and quack of both my Stratocaster has so much charisma its euphoric.
A texas special or a sweet alnico 3 overdrivin and singing, how bout those 69 custom shops? :)
Really its like saying do you think apple juice is better than orange juice?
Depends on my mood my friend. ;)
