Well done work, but not really for me. I'm a pretty heavy handed player so I always seem to press too hard when I play scalloped fretted necks.

A buddy of mine loves them, but then his touch is a bit lighter.

Hey guys! Kind of forgotten to post updates here...

Thanks for all the positive and negative criticism! :D

Put the guitar together for real today and tossed on some strings, and found out that i hade the same tone at 12th and 13th fret at one string...

Then, what to do? Adjust it? Nah... Order a brand new Fender YJM neck instead! 8)

So i just ordered this baby;

Image

I will order a set of YJM Fury Pickups from Seymour, paint the body vintage white, and says me satisfied with it!

Regarding the painting, i can do a quick writeup on it;

-Strip the body totally.

-Sand with 120 grit paper, 180 grit paper, 240 grit paper, 340 grit paper and end with 400 grit paper.

-"Wash" the body with thinner on a cloth, to get all the dust away. Thinner evaporates, so all you need to do is just wash away all the dust and wait a few minutes.

-Then spray the whole thing with body filler.

-Wetsand the bodyfiller with 400 grit, 520 grit, 600 grit, 800 grit, and finish of with 1000 or 1200 grit.

-Wash again with thinner on a cloth.

-Apply 3 coats of paint. I'm painting with a Devilbiss spraygun, which is essentially designed for painting cars. This provides a completely smooth surface, meaning no cellulites and imperfections.

It should be around 20*C when painting. Let the coats dry in about 30 minutes before laying a new coat.

You do NOT want to cover the whole thing with paint on the first coat. The second coat should just barely cover the whole thing.

-Once again, wash with thinner.

-Then apply 2 or 3 coats of clear coat. If you get dust in the clear coat, this is not a problem. Clear paint can be wet sanded with 2000 grit and polished again to perfect shine.

Otherwise, use youtube for videos! Searching "How to paint a guitar" gives many nice videos on how to do it.

I personally do this very carefully. I am apprentice as a car painter, so I do this every day, 5 days a week.

Since i work in a company that has deliver a perfect product, everything must be a hundred percent. I'm very picky on paint results, so I'll take it to work and paint it in the lacquer box, so I don't get any dust or dirt in the paint.

One must not be as careful as I am. You will get good results by much "poorer" preparation as well. With the accuracy I have on the preparation, this will be so fine that it can be exhibited.

Once again, thanks for all the positive and negative criticism! Will update here when the neck has arrived! :D

Hi Larsgunnar. I'm certainly no expert but if you compare the headstock in your picture to the one on the Fender site, I'm sure you'll see the differences as well. Yngwie Malmsteen Stratocaster®

Cheers!

Here's an interesting video clip featuring Ritchie Blackmore and the story of his scalloped guitar neck. :wink:

I'm with Bill - I think it's yukky... :|

Looks like a LOT of work for nothing, but that's just me... a professional woodworker and long-time guitar player.

you can get a neck that has huge jumbo frets, it feels a little scalloped to me,
your fingers hardly touch the fretboard.
