I have scoured the internet looking information on dating/identifying a strat I own. The person got it from said that it's a '62 reissue body. The neck was replaced with a Mighty Mite neck, the pickups were not original either and I later replaced them with '69 custom shop pickups. After tweaking and trying to get this guitar where I want it I noticed I could never alleviate the dead E string which prompted me to take it completely apart and contemplate ordering a new neck. I don't understand the #4 significance and it seems to be the only markings/stamps I can see.

Anyone that can help shed light on this would greatly be appreciated!

What do you mean by ; .." I could never alleviate the dead E string which prompted me to take it completely apart "........?

Most of the time Fender pocket neck ( on the body ) had some stickers.

After my guitar tech at a local music store installed my pickups and adjusted intonation and truss rod, new strings etc. The low E string still sounded dead past the 10th fret. I'm thinking the neck might be twisted somehow? Maybe a lack of quality control with Mighty Mite? Which led me to start looking at some replacement necks on eBay.

As for the body I suspect its a MIJ 62 RI. But usually it would have more info in the cavity. I also suspect it's made of Ash as its a bit on the heavy side.

I either want to find a nice oem maple neck or scrap it all together and drop the '69 pickups in something else. what to do

Not easy to say without seeing the guitar and doing some test. Intonnation ? Wrong scale ?

But sure a tech will know the answer ! What about the "tech " you see ? He can see if neck is defective What is his answer ?

You are better to see a qualified tech .

Thanks for the response. I guess in a way my desire to know more about the body was to make sure it was at least a 'real' Fender body. I know it's not a MM or an Allparts, they usually have the humbucker cutout in the bridge.

As for the 'tech' I was using i'm no longer going to use him. Maybe seek out a real 'luthier' if I have problems again.
I've decided to stick with my 'Frankenstein' for now and have ordered a Mighty Mite MM2928 maple neck with jumbo frets. I would've considered getting a Warmoth custom or an EJ signature neck but if the body isn't genuine I guess it wouldnt feel right to me.

maybe this helps maybe not.?

notice the American does not have finish in the pup cavity,
and the trem route for the MIJ is more squared edges.
and every one i have seen no matter where it was made has some kind of stamp in the neck pocket.

Better to see a real luthier for a second opinion. You could have same problem with new neck ( ? )
It would be usefull for you to know more about your neck before put it in garbage.

Too bad if you ordered a new neck for now .

Good tech / luthier are a subject often discussed on this forum.

Thanks for all the tips!

I was hoping it would at least have been an MIJ start, but on a different forum someone informed me that it could be a Squier SE body and has Agathis wood.

The neck is backordered till the 14th so I'm thinking of canceling it and leaving this strat as it is and find something better to put these pups in.
