Simple question:
Does Fender make a TBS tone control that does not have the detent?

I bought an FSR player MIM strat that is supposed to have the TBX, but there is no detent like my old HM Strat had.

Thanks.

Not that I know of!
I also don't know, if this detent can "wear off" by heavy use? I doubt it.

Have you looked underneath the pickguard? The TBX tone control casing is twice as high as normal tone control casings (or as volume pot casings as well for that matter)

I have 3 Strats with TBX control, years 86/87, 95 and 96. Pretty old already and still perfect detent, despite heavy use!

OK, so it's possible. Thanx for confirming.

Well, dang it. I popped the cover off and the tone's just a regular old tone pot. Oh well. Mystery solved. So, I guess that you can't always trust the tag they hang on the guitar.

Can't you take it back?
On the other hand: if it's a great guitar, just keep it. TBX is great but not a must.

You can get rid off the TBX, Eric Clapton no longer uses that feature on his guitars since March 2000.

It's a matter of personal preference and gear setup.
It can lifen up the sound quite a bit if you play over a dull amp.

Since I got myself a good amp, I hardly use the TBX anymore. I mean, I do use it but I'm in the range between 1 to 5 where it actually acts like a normal tone control.

So if just some famous dude isn't using it, it doesn't mean that somebody else doesn't actually need it or want it.

The TBX compensates the lack of highs when the MDX pot is cranked up to 10.

Ideal for single coils and useful with full-sized humbuckers. :P

Eric disliked the TBX because he found the Noiseless pickups sounding too dull.

The feature is still present on the Standard & TB Custom versions of his signature guitar, though.
