Aloha,
I've got a 50's Classic Player Stratocaster and for me it's the best guitar ever. I don't know exactly what it is but after 50 years of playing many high end and custom shop guitars, this Mexican / American hybrid does it for me. Mine also is the FSR model with the nitro finish.
My question is, does anyone know how I can modify the switching to move the neck/bridge combination (I love that!) to position 3, and make a neck/middle quack setting for position 4, which is eliminated from this model.

That modification would make this the perfect guitar for every thing I do. I just miss a good neck/middle sound! Any schematics or ideas out there?
Mahalo,
Jon

Not sure what your issue is. According to the specs, your 5-way switch should be wired like this:

Position 1: Bridge Pickup
Position 2: Bridge and Middle Pickup
Position 3: Middle Pickup
Position 4: Middle and Neck Pickup
Position 5: Neck Pickup

I know of no way to get two pickups to work on position 3 and still have the other selections with a regular 5-way switch.

Doesn't the Classic Player 50s have the Super Switch? The Classic Series 50s has the regular five-way switch.

If so, this should work.

Pos 1 - Bridge pup
Pos 2 - Bridge/Middle pups
Pos 3 - Bridge/Neck pups
Pos 4 - Neck/Middle pups
Pos 5 - Neck pup

Lower tone control for Bridge only, upper tone control for Bridge/Middle, Bridge/Neck, Neck/Middle, Neck.

Not according to the spec sheet which is what I copied from:

Yes, mine does seem to have the super switch because when I opened it up it was way too complicated to figure out on my own, and I've put pickups in a lot of Strats! Thanks so much for the Schematic! I believe it will work, and this guitar will be perfect in every way!

Man! I saw that and thought that I was losing my mind, as I was sure that I had looked at mine once and it had a Super switch. Fender must get a kick out of doing these things to us. Between this, the pictures of guitars with the wrong necks, your BDRI with the HRDlx III bias supply, and other anomalies, it's difficult to be sure of anything about Fender these days. :?

Leo himself was fond of pulling those same shenanigans.

Yes, for example, his use of the wrong tube charts in many amps. My Bassman was an AC568 instead of an AB165 as the tube chart indicated, just as you predicted IIRC. :o

FYI...there is a hidden switch setting that gives you the neck and middle pickups together. It's between the number 3 (middle only) and 4 (usual spot for neck and middle) positions. You'll definitely hear it when you get the switch in the right spot. There's no notch in the switch for this position but it will stay in place. Best of luck to you!
