It's awhile since I've posted on this forum, but I wanted to share something. I've had a '99 Strat American Deluxe since I bought it new. I've always loved the way it played but never liked the tone of the Vintage Noiseless pickups. They always sounded muddy to me. They didn't have the clear bell like tones I love. Meanwhile, back in the day I had a CBS Strat (Clear finish and baseball bat three screw neck). It sounded great but I never liked the fat neck. Not to mention the fact that it kept warping. Bought it new and Fender wouldn't replace the defective neck. Soooo, I was looking around on line and found the Rothstein Guitar websight. (http://www.guitar-mod.com/). They had a mod they called the VOODOO STRAT. Well I got a new pickguard from Warmouth and a set of C/S 69's from e-bay and wired it up. WOW! The guitar sounds great with the five stock tone settings, but the extra four settings are really interesting. Also, part of the mod gives you a "Midrange Shaper" so now you have a master volume, master tone and the second tone knob is a midrange shaper. The two tone and three pickup setup never made sense to me anyway. The wiring is fairly complex to do but they also sell it as a pre-wired assembly. I can get all kinds of very cool tones now. The only bad part is that I didn't do it twelve years ago. Check them out.
