@rob

You're quite right about the info you've provided, but according other sources I've had found on the Internet the Delta Tone system has been introduced in 1997. I suggest you to ask our Fender expert John C for further details.

Here are some useful reference links concerning the change to the Delta Tone feature:

Hope this information helps! :D

Cheers,

John

Aw John, now I'm gonna have to go through my Lit!!
I was hoping that you would have some sort of official Fender thingie that maybe I missed.
Really though, two of the links are forum posts and the first, though quite detailed, it doesn't list any sources.
So I'm kind of feeling like, "Its on the internet, so it must be true!....and if it's not, it will be soon"

I'll try to remember to dig a little deeper and see what i can find for '97 and 99 when i get back to my office (which will be a little while :) )

I'm standing with 99 till then because the guy we have documenting this stuff (creating and obsessing about the spec documents you see me post here on the forum) is pretty exacting and really, really really really really does not like being wrong. (Be kinda fun if he is though)
Hope you had a nice Christmas holiday and that the new year treats you well!
cheers,
rob

Rob and chromeface - I've never tracked down when I first saw "Delta Tone" in an ad; sorry I got rid of a bunch of old Frontlines and Guitar Players, etc. so I don't have anything to fall back on.

I've seen it as early as 1996 on the internet (which I think is too early) and as late as what Fender has in their database - 1999. At the time the TBX was replaced by the Delta Tone I was so deeply into the AVs that I wasn't paying close attention to the American Standards so I'm not help at all on this subject.

Sorry to drag up an old thread, but was doing some reading up on Aquamarine Strats and stumbled on this. I just wanted to confirm that the Delta Tone system indeed was introduced in 1997, not 1999. While I don't have any factory documentation, I do own a 1997 American Standard I bought new, and recall immediately noticing this new feature that was different from the 1991 I already had. No doubt the Delta Tone had been in use for 2 full years by 1999.

How about sending your serial number to Rob, see if the factory specs are different from what jbirdlala has.
I know it's trivia, but it's Fender trivia

Actually I guess I DO have factory documentation... the original sticker still on the pickguard. Who else but me has a 1997 still in the wrapper? haha...Hard to see in the pic, but it lists the Deltatone system right on line 4. One more reason to not always take everything Fender e mails you back about your Strat as 100% gospel... its a cool service they offer, but not a replacement for doing your own research.

Just be aware that the information on the sticker is not always correct.

The 60th Anniversary Stratocaster (the American Standard model) had a sticker on the pickguard that proudly declared that the guitar had locking tuners (among other details), when in reality that is not the case.
Now I have seen this myself on two guitars.
It could be that there were only a small number of guitars shipped out with the incorrect sticker, and that the bulk of them had correct details on the sticker, but as I've only seen two examples ....

From the information in the first part of the article, the lower tone control should have a definite notch at the 10 position.
Does yours have this notch?

Absolutely it does.... the previous TBX controls also had a notch, but at the midway point (5 vs. 10) As I noted earlier, my 1991 has TBX, 1997 has Deltatone. No doubt the sticker on the pickguard is correct, and it's a Deltatone pot. I'm sure I'm not the only person that owns a 97 or 98 American Standard... Check them out, I'll bet you find most if not all will also have the Deltatone system. It was definitely introduced and completely phased in long before 1999.
