Hi. I would like to change the pickups on my 62 Vintage Hot Rod Strat. They come with the American VIntage Strat Single Coils in currently. I'd like to swap them for a good all around set with a bit more output to drive my amp better. I am thinking of installing the Custom Shop Fat '50s. Would that be a good choice? Are they hotter pickups than the ones I currently have? Anyone have that guitar with those pickups?

Thanks.

My main problem with Fender pickups is the staggered poles. Those are staggered were originally designed to match the radius of the fretboard, which back in the day was 7.25". Think about it, when have you ever seen anyone adjust the poles on a humbucker with their flat setup? So pickups like Texas Specials have a low output on the high E and B strings because the poles are so low, many people often replace those pickups for the lack of fullness. If you can find a set that has flat poles, you'd be better off with newer radiuses like 9.5" and 12". I actually have Dimarzio Area pickups in my American Standard, which are staggered, but not to the extent of the Fender Single Coils... Seymour Duncan makes Alinco II single coils that come staggered or flat... I'd recommend the flat set...

I'd take a baseball bat neck Stratocaster over any other model....
