Hi guys, I'm looking at getting a vintage '76 Strat, natural ash, maple neck, black pickguard. Question; it's got the 5 way switching, which I thought only came in from '77. The seller says it was available in '76 as an optional extra and Fender began to phase the 5 way in with the black pickguards - any truth in that?

Here's an old guitar and a virtual bevy of original Fender beauties......

The one-owner Les Paul Standard dates to '78 and the amps (clockwise from upper left) are a '65 Princeton Reverb, a '68 Deluxe Reverb, a '64 Vibroverb, and a '64 Pro Amp.

I believe everything shown qualifies as "vintage".
