Can't blame GC or a pawn for expecting to make at least a 100% profit. You can't stay in business with less margin than that. Go to Macy's in April and see what the leather coat you just bought for Xmas is selling for on sale, and they're still making a profit! Now, about taking guitars apart to inspect. On a vintage, collectable it's necessary to verify originality, but too often I see photos of a very nice guitar on Craigslist that the owner thought necessary to strip from the neck down for his photo shoot. When I see that, I consider it worth pennies on the dollar and go on to the next listing.

Actually, people who are greedy usually hoard everything, including money. However, when you hoard money, it gums up the economy. The hoarding syndrome and gummed-up-economy are thoroughly entrenched now and the bottom can't feed the top anymore. So, the general population should demand top-dollar for items they sell used and not buy new until they've offed their used gear. This will bring down retail prices to where they should be with a slight dip in value for used gear unless the new gear is inferior, in which case, the retail value will go down and used gear value will go up.

With respect to vintage, lol. It makes no sense whatsoever to me. I'm not the curator of a museum. And, ya can't really play a pristine vintage instrument if you want to maintain its value. Then, there's theft and insurance.

I'll put my 2010 Hwy 1 Strat and 2012 Gibson SG standard up against any vintage Strat or SG and then laugh all the way to the bank!

...nothing wrong with hoarding and vintage if that's your thing, but..., as evidenced by the offer above, again...the bottom can't, and in some cases won't feed the top anymore. Now what will we do?

What's the street/retail value of a '54 strat in that condition?

Here's an interesting and recent video of Gruhn Guitars, a reputable vintage guitar dealer. Granted dealers charge absolute top dollar, but you can trust that what you are getting from them is genuine and authentic - a big issue in todays used guitar industry.

In the video, George Gruhn shows a 1954 stratocaster which they have in stock for $37,500. He also discusses how the prices of vintage guitars have dropped remarkably since 2006 when the economy took a large hit.

Really worth a watch for anyone interested.

That was great thanks for posting.....A very worthwhile 41 minutes...

If GC is asking $35k for it then it's worth $25k at most.

How do you know it's the same guitar?

The wear pattern on the fingerboard is identical as is the rest of the wear on the guitar.

Since it's in Hollywood, this means...the guitar was either shipped or flown in for the...spoof.

It's comforting to know we are being spoofed by the media and GC???...did GC know about this...or did they buy it after the fact...

This one makes much more sense to me:

After looking at the photos I have to agree. It would be hard to argue that those are not the same guitar.
