I've set up a couple of 80's LH MIJ Strats for people over the years, and to me it looks 100% what it claims to be.

Headstock decals are 100% as they should be for that guitar. The scratchplate looks a tiny bit off, but nearly all of them do on the 80's MIJ lefties.

Pickups might not be original, but that might not be a bad thing - some of the non-mainstream (as in not RH reissue) MIJ Strats of that time had lower spec pickups fitted - my '86 MIJ hardtail had some pretty horrible, but completely original, ceramic single coils which have long since departed and been replaced by my usual Duncan assortment.

(And yes, the first time I saw one, I did assume it was a fake because of the headstock, and was promptly educated by the owner who bought it brand new and still had the brochure page tucked in the case. Oops. )

From the research I have been doing, all left hand MIJ strats of this year had the Fender logo only with the serial below it. As well as the 1 ply 8 screw pick guard. I agree the pups don't look original "they should have some yellowing on em being an almost 25yo guitar" I am not really concerned about that. From what I gather, everything else looks legit though?

I think it's the lack of screws in the scratch plate and the terrible hack square cut in the scratch plate at the bottom of the bridge that's throwing me off on further looking. The body and neck do look good.

It's an 88-89 they are supposed to only have 8 screws and a single ply pickguard...

I do agree that the headstock decal just looks utterly wrong, but that's the way they were!

This is one thing I love about these forums, tons of information you would never know unless somebody asks a question. I figured the LH strat were the same as the RH but if the lefties came with 50's specs all seems right. If you can get it for a decent price id pick it up. But to be honest these arent old or collectable enough to demand any big $$$. Your money might be better spent elsewhere on a 90's american standard.

Well I got a pleasant surprise today, Canada post showed up to my door with the guitar on this lovely sunday morning. Opened it up and was shocked, this thing is in very nice shape "pictures surely don't do it justice"
I ended up getting the case and guitar shipped to my from the other side of Canada "Calgary" for $300 plus shipping :) the frets on it look brand new " no fret wear" lovely dark rosewood. Just letting her warm up and then I am going to give her a strum :)

Two of the pots seem to have much play in them, I don't know if they came loose in transit or not, something I will need to check out.
Happy holidays all!

Looks like a keeper, glad it all worked out!

Well, as far as I can tell from tilting my head at a funny angle. LH guitars always look a bit odd to me.

Nice! Very close to my E8....MIJ Strat. Although, mine does have an eleven hole, three ply pickguard and the serial# is at the heel of the neck.
This thing is all stock and the pickups sound better than my American Standard!
Good Luck with yours!

Nice one!

But I think yours is a 68 reissue, hence the 11 screw pick guard.

If any of you guys have a nice 8 hole lefty pick guard let me know. I'd be interested in any interesting colors. I don't think the one on mine is original.
