Hello all!

New here. I am looking at a vintage MIJ Strat, however I would like your expert opinions on this being the real deal. According to the serial number this was made in 88-89. Just having an issue, I have only been able to find one other like it "but it was black" with the same logo. It would appear that the headstock on this guitar only has the Fender Logo with the serial number below it, no "Stratocaster" on the headstock which raises a flag for me? Also there is no dark strip of wood going down the center of the neck. The body appears to look legit with the single ply 8 hole pick guard as well as the bridge. Just in AMAZING shape for the age. And I guess with out having the neck removed to see the heel and the pocket on the body, this is all I am left with for guessing.

Your quick thoughts guys? I am looking to buy this possibly today off of a fellow here in Canada but just worried it is a fake.
Your help is very much appreciated!
Here are some pictures.

Ser# is H021243.
Only red flags that are popping up for me is the lack of "stratocaster" on the headstock and the strip of dark wood down the center of the backside of the neck.

Anyone??

Most of the earlier Japanese LH Strats had no 'Stratocaster' part on the decal, so that's perfectly normal.

Lack of a skunk stripe on the neck is correct too - all looks good to me!

Interesting!

So the lack of "stratocaster" on the headstock is perfectly normal for left handed versions?
Does everything else look legit to you?

Thanks so much for that bit of info that really helps!

Yep! None of the earlier LH Japanese Strats had 'Stratocaster' on the headstock, just 'Fender' and the serial just like the one in your pics.

There's certainly nothing in those pics which jumps out as looking suspect to me - looks like a good 'un!

It was made like a true vintage issue, sort of..... Heal adjustment, but modern ping tuners? Serial Number at the heal, but I see no plastic plate under the neck plate (hard to tell).. No skunk stripe means it was made like vintage necks with the truss rod being glued to between the thick fretboard and neck.

Pull the neck off and see what the heal of the guitar and back of the neck says... Post pics if you can.

It does have the black plastic plate under the neck plate. I can't remove the neck because the guitar is on the other side of my country right now lol. I am guess I am going to pull the trigger on this one and hopefully he accepts my offer.

To be honest it looks alright, nice case, pick guard and electronics seem a bit suspect to me, screw placement doesn't seem right also trem arm looks newly bought and RH. Thats just my 2 cents, these left H mij strats are hard to judge not that much known on them even with serials and whatnot. Id pay between 275-400 max, it has some wear, some parts have surface rust. Half the price is in the case.

What about the screw placement doesn't seem right? comparing it to others it looks identical when it comes to the pick guards screw placement?

Totally serious Northood..... I know its a lefty and looks retarded normally but the headstock decals are wrong, The scratch plate looks wrong....

I've just read though other peoples posts here so i may stand corrected.....I have a 85 MIJ strat sittin right next to me but round the right way and know what they look like very well. That's so different a guitar. I never knew the LHD versions were 60's copies like that, i naturally expected they were the same as E series 80's MIJ..... So i'll bow out.....But it just looks sus to me....The body and neck look good.... but the rest... :?:

From the research I have been doing, all left hand MIJ strats of this year had the Fender logo only with the serial below it. As well as the 1 ply 8 screw pick guard. I agree the pups don't look original "they should have some yellowing on em being an almost 25yo guitar" I am not really concerned about that. From what I gather, everything else looks legit though?
