Hello community!
So, Christmas is arriving and I'm buying a new guitar.
Question is:
Should I buy:
A) Fender New Standard Strat (for 455€ - 475€)
B) (2nd hand) Boss VF-1, plus a Boss Midi FC-50, plus a Wah pedal for 200 € and a (1st hand) Squier or Epiphone guitar for, maximum, 300€
Which one? A or B?
If you choose B, which guitar would be better for Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, ZZ Top, Deep Purple and some clean stuff player?
I have a Fender Mustang I.
Keep in mind that I'm a bedroom player. I don't have any bands.

All help and constructive posts will be much apreciated! :)

I'd look for a used Strat and save some coin. New guitars are really nice, but if you buy it and decide later its not what you wanted, you WILL lose money. Buy used at first. Epi or Fender, doesn't matter. Don't buy a Squier unless its a Vintage Modified or Standard which puts you in used Fender MIM (Made In Mexico) price range. You won't need any of the pedals with the Mustang 1 (arguably the best amp for the money!) Midi's are strange tools. If you don't already know how to use them, I'd just use the effects on the Mustang 1 for now until you have the hang of it.

Only piece of gear I suggest never to buy used is a mechanical wah. The pot inside gets dirty and stratchy. Usually the main reason why someone sells it.

Strange you know. I tried those pedals and they're sound was a lot better than my Mustang's effects, but nevermind. I really liked that Wah pedal. I think it is a Roland EV-5 expression pedal. And the Boss Midi was useful to change sounds without touching in the amp. Aren't they useful?

Roland makes Boss pedals, which is the industry standard. So its up to you... Do you want a host of pedals, that's up to you.

Buy USED you fool! No but seriously there are a ton of people wanting to clean out their house and make a quick buck, check out Craigslist. The best deal I've ever got was from a pawnshop though it was a 98' mim tele great condition with fender hard case for 260 $. If you're not into that sort of thing the coolest cheapie guitars to by new I've ever tried out was an epiphone sg 400 faded, it sounded very nice for the price(had grovers). Also check out Danelectro, a hodad in particular, sir Jimy page approves of Dano's. Also the epiphone dot studio's weren't too shabby, the (brown sunburst is awesome). I'm definitely a Fender man but I can't comment on squires just never botheredtrying one for some reason. Sounds really cliche' but you have to play around on a variety to find what you look for in a guitar. Hope this helps 8)

Definitely go for option A, I find that even in the same price range fender puts out better quality than epiphone. The way the majority of epi's play compared to fenders there's no contest. but this is all just opinion

I'd have to disagree to a point. Low end Epi's like their Studio, faded, or bolt on necks are indeed crappy on average. But the Standard, Plus, Elite, and Pro series are fantastic. I'm a big Fender fan, so don't get me wrong, but I had an Epi LP Standard that was better than my Gibson. My current Epi Dot Deluxe only needed a fret leveling and it became one of the best guitars I've ever had.

Just bought my nephew (14 and playing for a year) a brand new Epi Wildkat (in the blonde/yellow finish) for $299 USD. Once it arrived and before wrapping it, I gave it a good going over to check the set-up and play it a little to make sure everything was working properly and I was astounded by the quality of a guitar for this price.

Option B then. You'll cover more of the ground you're looking for.

Ok, wait a bit. I think I forgot to put here a fundamental point.
I play a lot Pink Floyd. When I say a lot, I mean like 85% of the music I play is Pink Floyd. I already know how to play Shine On You Crazy Diamond, Comfortably Numb, Echoes, Another Brick In The Wall, and some other stuff, ofc.
Favourite band and guitarist.
Lets focus a bit now on getting that Floyd sound.
Which option?
Still B) ?

I'd go for option b), but with a second hand Mexican Strat instead of the new Squier.

Also, although the VF-1 is really nifty, it's worth looking out for a used Boss GT-3 or GT-5 - they go rather cheaply, the overdrives are analog as opposed to the digital stuff on the more modern multi effects, and in my opinion are much more useful for the Floydesque stuff.

The modulations in particular are rather good on the early GTs, and you can get some very Gilmourish tones with a bit of tweaking. I seem to recall them having a very handy 'dotted eighths' tap tempo function for the delays, which is immensely useful for things like 'Run Like Hell', etc. Might be making that up entirely though, it's been a while since I sold my GTs!

Of course, that gives you floor control as well, and the wah is actually not that bad if you tweak the settings a bit, saving a bit more cash until you're more certain of what you want.

I used a GT-3 straight into the board on a few rather large sessions, and I've seen them sat on some very large stages used by some very big name artists, so you might not even ever grow out of it. You'd be surprised how often my GTs got taken to gigs instead of my carefully constructed board of expensive pedals!
