For the Powerhouse, they added a pair of resistors to the mid-boost pot to limit the available boost to +12dB.

They did the same mod for the 2nd generation Samboras with the small star inlays and dual-coil ceramic stack humbuckers.

You've heard this from me before but I'll offer it given the discussion. I recall the first Buddy Guy Signature Strat as having had the same electronics, a light honey[almost MK blond translucent finish] and a tortoise guard. The pups had pole pieces, predating his move to the Clapton based guitar. You'd have to dig around for an early to mid' 90's catalog for a picture of that first one. I've never seen one offered for sale used, but I'd sure like to find one.

Since people are expressing their preference between rosewood or maple with Graffiti Yellow, mine is the lightest shade of rosewood I have seen, almost a tan with darker stripes. Always loved Graffiti Yellow along with Fiesta Red. I have a friend that inherited a 56 Thunderbird (car) from his father-in-law years ago. It was originally white, repainted Fiesta Red (an original color on Thunderbirds). I just hated that color on the car then, but it's an absolute knockout on the guitars!

I stopped into GC to look at a used Champ they had for $80.00. The amp was gone but hanging on the wall was the same guitar, a Grafitti Yellow Powerhouse Strat. It was in great shape and the price was right so I walked out with it. Took it in for a setup and a string change and now it is perfect.

The red color Gibson used for their Thunderbirds and Firebirds is Cardinal Red.

Fiesta Red was a Thunderbird automobile color. Fender used GM and Ford colors, perhaps some Chrysler too?

DuPont Paints if memory serves.

Definitely Cardinal Red.

Fiesta Red is a DuPont paint while Cardinal Red is a Pontiac paint.

Gibson used Pontiac paints for the Firebird/Thunderbird.

Fender always uses DuPont paints for their guitars.

Fantastic - I love Graffiti Yellow!

I'll wager you're not based in the UK, though. Impossible (well, I haven't managed it) to find one over here!

Cheers.

I think you're misunderstanding what tvr1979 was saying. He's talking about a Ford Thunderbird automobile, and saying Fiesta Red was a factory finish for Ford Thunderbirds -- he's not talking about Gibson Thunderbird basses. (The "guitar" reference was that he didn't like Fiesta Red on Ford cars but does like it on Fender guitars.)
