Hey everyone,
I have recently been given the opportunity to purchase a 1972 strat for $1200. There are a few things that are holding me back though. first is that there are no electronics. Second, the 21st fret is missing, and lastly the neck has a few extra screw holes in the top. It looks like they may have been for a locking nut.

Also it has a full body route, or swimming pool route, and if thats not original then it must have been repainted as well.

Im wondering if this guitar is worth that price, any advice?

I wouldn't buy it for $12 but that's just me.
It wouldn't matter to me if it was damaged, modified or a fake.
Too much wrongness going on there for my tastes.

Stay away, probably just the neck is legit.

Cheers,
Robin

Avoid this "opportunity" if you are able.

Sounds like you're going to pay too much. Fretjobs are $200+, new pickups and electronics, another $300+, plus it was poorly cared for? Yikes!

Got any pics?

Other than that, you can buy a 70's AVRI used for the same price and not have to worry about fixing any of those problems..

Purchased a '79 Strat the had been stripped to the wood and the electronics where changed to some wonderful Van Zandt True Vintage pickups for under $800. late '70s unmollested Strats are going for about $1400. Heck I remember black '77 hard tail Strat that I picked up for $750 back in 2003.

If I'm buying a guitar for a good bit of change I want to know all the facts. When I got my '79 I knew what I was getting into. I bought it because I love playing it. It' one of the best sounding/playing Strats I own.
