Hey all,

First post here and I have a question. I have an American Standard and have just replaced the tremelo bloack with a nice Callaham (sounds way better) and new saddles. I am using the David Gilmour Custom Strings.

My issue is that I just set up my guitar and intonated it, everything is good. adj the action to where I like it, good there too. Now the issue, and maybe I just have not noticed this or maybe this is nothing to worry about is when unplugged and I am just noodling around, sometimes the upper frets when doing bends I hear this vibration, not a buzz. I cant figure out where its coming from nor do I know if this is a big deal or not as plugged in I dont notice it at all.

My question is: Is it possible I have something set up wrong? I have 3 springs in the back and about the 1/8 recommended gap for the floating trenelo. I know it is not the parts or anything that I can see and maybe I am paranoid. The vibration is something I just noticed happening and don't remember hearing it before. Can anyone give me some insight on this? This way I can trouble shoot it (if it is even an issue)

Thanks a ton..

Sounds like it may be from fretting out. Try raising the action a little as see if that helps.

My action is pretty good I think, not low but not high, I do it by feel etc. It is just a weird vibration that I also have noticed just fretting chords too. Like something with the wood, it is so hard to explain..the neck relief is good. I am going to lower the saddles and try again and see if I can figure it out. Nothing major but a slight annoyance

OK, if you think the setup is good.

Could a saddle be vibrating?

hmmm. I will check. they are brand new Callaham saddles, really nice btw. I will check that too. I could have the pups to close to the strings as I have been dorking around with the whole guitar doing minor adjustments. I know the magnet can cause this or perhaps the string is hitting it when I bend. Again I dont think it is a hardware issue but more a I am not a pro at setp up issue. I am going to dork around and start over. Easy to do and wont hurt.

Process of elimination. Check the new parts and every adjustment you made since the new parts were put on.

Ya more I think about it I bet its the pups being to close as I was moving them around plus I have a new humbucker in the bridge really close so I am sure when I bend or put access presuure it is catching the poles on my neck or middle position or the top of the humbucker at bridge. First thing I am doiing is lowereing them way low and see if it disappears then I know that was the cause. Never did it before....joys of dorking around on your own guitar. Trial by fire

I've heard a strange vibration like that for a while now, and I can't adjust the action because the adjustment wrench teeth got stripped off.

Yeah, the pickups being close can cause a vibration. The other thing is that you don't want them too close because the magnetic field can interfere with the string's vibrations. You have a certain amount of the gumption taken away from your playing because notes won't resonate as much and your tone deteriorates. The factory height adjustment in the manual is pretty well right on as far as that is concerned.
