Good evening all,

I have been studying this forum with interest for months now and i thank you all for your knowledge and advise that you have given others, that i have used to good effect.

But the time has come that i have a question that i cannot find an answer too and now i feel the need to register and ask the experts.

Its quite simple, is this a genuine Strat colour?

Its been offered to me at £650 and the seller says its all genuine and a midnight blue but i cannot find a single trace of this colour anywhere else on the net.

The serial is E939632.

Thanks in advance,

regards

On the Fender color chart they do list a midnight blue. Yours looks more navy blue metallic (#59).

Thanks for the reply.
I agree, it looks nothing like midnight blue. But it has a sparkle that just isnt represented in the charts anywhere. Theres loads of light bright blues with a sparkle. but i dont see any dark blues with it.

The search continues....

I had seen this color on a Custom Shop Stratocaster a few weeks ago, I can´t remember what the color was called but it seems to be a "normal" Fender color. I took a pic (yes, I liked the guitar 8) ) - sorry for the quality but I was a bit overwhelmed by the flake sparkle finish.

Cheers,
Robin

I asked the direct question to fender support and got this reply from a nice chap called Matt Davey.

"" Hi,

Thanks for your email.

I’m afraid I can’t find a direct match for this colour. I’ve looked through our archive for colours at this time and there’s nothing that would fit this. It’s possible it was a limited run that wasn’t documented or it’s been re-finished at some point.

Sorry I can’t be of more help.

Kind regards, Matt.""

I must say im supprised this thread hasnt sparked more debate, as if this is a genuine fender finnish in as new condition, well there cant be many of them can there??

Im stil a but baffled

All the more reason that it's not likely an original Fender color, but the world is full of repainted Fender (and fake Fender) bodies; some painted well, some not. If you like it, that's all that matters, but it's not really something to get worked up about.

I have not seen this color and it is definitely not Midnight Blue. If you pulled the neck and pickguard (scratch plate for you Brits!) off and took some picts of the neck socket and pickup route—post them— and maybe we can tell if this is a refin or maybe a custom order, or even an after market body. Cheerio mate!

That's called Holoflake. If you google image search it, you'll find a number of other similar and different finishes. I doubt it is factory Fender.

Not sure about the OP's guitar though.

I have a Danelectro Danoblaster that has a heavy flake paint job very similar. It was popular on custom cars many years ago.

Thx, yeah it is called Holoflake and it´s Fender colorcode 865 (found it). It´s different from the OPs.
I like the flake designs.

Cheers,
Robin

Here in London Harrods department store stocks almost exclusively Custom Shop Fenders and they have lots of sparkle finishes on the walls which are not in the regular factory catalog. In this picture for example - hard to tell for sure, but isn't that a blue sparkle Strat on the bottom row?

The fender color chart doesn't show discontinued colors

Your best bet is to run the Serial number with Fender. They should have a record that states specific information about your guitar.

Ceri -

That is a really nice collection of Fender guitars! I didn't know that Harrod's stocked them - I would have checked it out when I visited years ago. I had a bicycle painted the color of that green sparkle Tele at top center. Those are really nice sunburst/bound Teles too. I like ALL of those guitars!

Thanks for sharing.
