Can you ever actually reach perfect? Or are we doomed to forever modding our Fender guitars?

Start with pickups. If you want the perfect single coil tone, take your pick of Lace Sensors (lacemusic.com) or the Fender SCN s are good too. If you want something in the Humbucker category, the lace alumitones are great and Seymour Duncan makes a wide variey of amazing traditional humbuckers.
