This thread was started long ago by a particularly stupid and virulent troll.

I believe it was resurrected by someone who claims to be him, as well.

There is no discussion to be had here. Let this sink back into the oblivion from whence it was retrieved.

Here's my $.2 when you ask people which they prefer, there seems to be a "I don't like what I don't have" syndrome. This seems to be especially true with people who can't afford the more expensive option (Wii vs Xbox or PS3). Wii owners don't like the others cuz it was too expensive and their parents bought them the Wii. (wah) Note: I don't play video games because I have a guitar addiction. Same goes w/ guitars. "I don't like Gibson (because I don't have one)."

I don't really like one more than the other BUT sometimes I feel like my Gibson will break much easier than my Fenders. I play my Gibson with care but I am hard on my Fenders. For that reason, I like Fender better.

Well said. A friend of mine was gigging with a Les Paul Supreme. He traded it in for a Gibson Les Paul standard because the Supreme was just too pretty to see beat up on stage. No. 1 problem with Gibsons, headstocks.. That 17 degree angle means trouble.

I must admit that I like, and own, both Les Pauls and SG's, and Strats and Teles. I think my Eric Clapton Strat can do it all though! Noisless pups, mid boost, no hum, smokin' output...it's the way to go!!!

This is a very true statement. This subject cannot be discussed, and certainly cannot be debated with any intelligent verbiage. A Ford guy likes Ford and a Chevy guy likes Chevy, but a "Car Guy" likes both and doesn't try to make one better than the other...because that would be silly. There are Fish guy's and Meat guy's, but guy's who like to eat usually eat both.

The disturbing thing for me, IMO, is that this thread has gotten 7 pages deep! I always feel that I have inspired some kind of intelligent conversation if my thread reaches 3 pages. Debate and disagreement is always healthy, but 7 pages of nothing is just silly.

Just my Opinion

It's simply a matter of personality, feel and musical preference.

2 years ago I could not make up my mind between the two. I read article after article, product reviews and played many of both. There is nothing finer than a Stratocaster...

I've had, since 1960, many guitars. Both Fender, and Gibson. (and many others)There is no BEST guitar. There have been great guitars and lousy guitars, and good guitars, and not so good guitars, and absolute $hit guitars. I've got a collection of really great guitars that I've managed to acquire over the years. Some are Gibson and some are Fender. I love them all. Both Gibson and Fender build some fine guitars. (as well as the other kind)
Great depends on personal preferences. Opinions vary. The only opinion that means anything to me is the one I form by playing a guitar over a period of time. I'm thrilled for everyone who thinks their guitar is the best, but that don't mean they, or I, am right in the grand scheme of things. By the way, I own several great guitars that were (compared to the big two) cheap junk, and they get played as much as my Custom Shop guitars.
It's all relative..........
