Do the math! Well I see you are one Telecaster and one SG short.
Thats not counting acoustic or a nice ES style guitar. You are limited if you think a Strat can do it all.

My collection is far from complete by any means. Nor will it ever be complete 8)

I just started the collection recently so I have only begun my GAS.

No guitar will ever be able to do it all. What fun would it be to only own and play one single guitar? Guitars are like tools. Different tasks require different tools. Just as different songs require different instruments to get the sound you want for that particular song.

Horses for courses, but obviously I'm a Fender man.

Maybe the companies should co-operate on a few ltd edition models - unlikely I know but it would be good for both - tapping into new sales bases and all that.

I have a vision of a Stratocaster in (Gibson) Pelham Blue..

I love my Gibson, but Fenders are hard to beat. Id have to say Gibson by a hair, but it is very close. I mean everybody has their own style of playing and sound that would call for a Fender or Gibson. But that's just me, give me a guitar and I'll play it :p

I love both Fender and Gibson. I don't really see why people say that Gibson guitars are "way too expensive"
Fender MIA Stratocaster, black finish with chrome hardware = around $1,100
Gibson Les Paul Studio, black finish, chrome hardware = around $1,100

Fender Custom Shop Stratocaster with standard finish = around $3,000-5,000
Gibson VOS Les Paul with standard finish = $3,000-5,000

Fender MIM Stratocaster with standard finish = around $500
Gibson/Epiphone Les Paul Standard = around $500
Your local prices may vary, and this is just an estimate from varied sources.
I really don't see what the big difference is!!!
It is just like Chevy and Ford!!!
Before you go and trash one of the finest guitar companies in the world, understand that some of YOUR most favorite songs were played and recorded on a Les Paul!!!
Want to hear a nice Les Paul tone??? Try "Larks Tongue in Aspic" by King Crimson. Robert Fripp is a master. Don't get me wrong, love my Strats and Teles, but c'mon. Gibsons...crap??? Lay off the bong!!

I've had the fortunes to have both. However, both guitars have serious tonal differences. Gibson is meant for more modern rock styles, however Fender has that classic rock and blues tone I love. I purchased an Epiphone Les Paul Standard two years ago based upon someone else's advice. While I love the guitar, I ended up trading out pickups for high end Gibson, changed the nut, and replaced the saddles. With everthing I put into this guitar, I spent well over $800 on it. (Could of purchansed a used American Strat for all that coin) A few months ago, I purchased a Gibson Les Paul, but since its tone was no different then my Epiphone, I couldn't justify the need. So I went back to my gut, returned a Gibson Les Paul Faded for a Fender Lonestar Deluxe. Now I have my Strat and have no regrets. Fender gives you so much more for you money. No upgrades required, no mods, only strap locks. Can't beat the tone and can't beat the quality.

I read every post here in hope's that i would see someone like me....but i didnt.

So here goes.

In my life i have had many guitars Fender,Gibson, Carven, Ibanez....and from what I remember I loved my Les Paul I had back in the late 70s.
But I stopped playing for a few years.....in 2004 my wife got me a MIM Std. Strat and thats all i played for 4 years (at home) ....so in 2008 I went out and bought me a MIA Strat Deluxe and a MIA Strat Std.

My plans are to get another (or hope for two ) guitars in the next few months.....so a few months ago i went back to GC (its a hour and a half drive for me so i dont do it often) and tried out some Les Pauls. Out of the 8-10 I tried not one even came close to feeling right to me ( the feel of the necks) I picked up a Strat and it was perfect...so.......

Fender snob?....i guess i am
Limited?...I dont think so

P.S. the one thing i do notice is a fender makes me want to play (by play i mean put more feeling into my playing not just shreding) but this is just me....im sure i could go look at the gibson forum and see someone there thats says the same thing but for Gibson.

Jimmie

Gibson are nice and they have their own forum. Its all about preference and tone. Personally, I think Gibson guitars are not just for playing but for prestige. Fender's about blue collar rock 'n blues. Not to mention, they are priced for the every day rocker. Gibson's are nice, but too expensive, and for what? Glued in neck versus a bolt on? Is there that much more work that goes into them? Yes, I'd take a Gibson Les Paul Standard. I just won't pay $1800 for a guitar when I can buy of rock out the box Fender American Standard and buy a decent amp for the same price....

Here's my $.2 when you ask people which they prefer, there seems to be a "I don't like what I don't have" syndrome. This seems to be especially true with people who can't afford the more expensive option (Wii vs Xbox or PS3). Wii owners don't like the others cuz it was too expensive and their parents bought them the Wii. (wah) Note: I don't play video games because I have a guitar addiction. Same goes w/ guitars. "I don't like Gibson (because I don't have one)."

I don't really like one more than the other BUT sometimes I feel like my Gibson will break much easier than my Fenders. I play my Gibson with care but I am hard on my Fenders. For that reason, I like Fender better.
