True, Every guitar has its uses but I firmly believe the best measure is VERSATILITY. To that end, you just can't beat a fender.

Testament:

Hendrix, Clapton, King, Beck, Malmsteen, Guy, Holly, Strummer, (sort of) Van Halen, Richards....the list goes on.

I messed up. I get a good feeling when I play a Fender, so I think Fenders are better

I like both. I've only have had my Strat for a few months and my Les Paul for a few weeks but they both beat the Ibanez guitars I had. I went from 11 Ibanez electrics to 1 Ibanez (SZ520) a Strat and an LP because I can get the sounds I'm looking for in 3 guitars as opposed to 11. They're both different and that's what I like about them.

There's nothing quite like having a Stratocaster in your hands, but Fender doesn't offer anything near the Gibson ES line.

Even if they did try with the Starcaster.

Right now I'm using a Strat and an Epiphone Casino.

I'm looking into buying a Gibson Melody Maker right now. It's like a combination of a Telecaster and a Les Paul, and if the current model sounds anything like the vintage I saw in a music video, I want it.

Fender would love a chunk of Gibson's archtop market and they've tried over the years. Image-search the Coronado, the LTD, the Montego and even the D'Aquisto Deluxe. None of it really took off and in the end Thinlines are about the most success they've had putting air inside.

After all, do we want to wail away on a 335 like Clapton, or go for some strange jazz-looking thing from Fender? Most of us don't feel good in a goatee beard... We know what we want from Fender and it ain't that!

Both. As guitarists we have to realise that you require a variety of tools to get the job done. There are things that fenders cant do as well as Gibsons and vice versa.

My Fenders and Gibsons are the best feeling guitars I played. Life time companions.

Both are super fine guitars.Picking out a tune seems easier on a strat but sweeping chords are awesome on a Les Paul (think Jimmy page as opposed to Eric Clapton).
I am of two minds which one to pick up ; they both put a smile on the dial. :P

Do the math! Well I see you are one Telecaster and one SG short.
Thats not counting acoustic or a nice ES style guitar. You are limited if you think a Strat can do it all.
