Basically I want to sell or trade my Stratocaster for a Telecaster. I posted a topic in the telecaster forum asking about what I should look for or what years would be good to trade for ,but this is a bit different and more geared towards strat people. This is my strat: viewtopic.php?f=6&t=80094

I've seen them going on Ebay for around $800-$1,000 used.

I put it up on craigslist for $800 my question for you Strat people is that a fair price with a TSA Fender hardshell case and a tremolo bar? . This is my ad:

http://southjersey.craigslist.org/msg/3462292719.html

The reason I want to trade or sell it is because I love this Strats sound and feel ,but it doesn't feel right to me like I know a Telecaster would. I guess everyone has their preferences after all? lol

Well, that's a fair price but with the Fender rebates and the 18-month, no interest, financing options being offered on new Strats by some of the big online dealers, it might take awhile to sell via Craigslist. ... If you go the eBay route, you might have a better chance of getting your price but then you pay the ebay and, most likely, Paypal fees which takes away some of the $$.. Good luck, though. It's a fine looking Strat..

It seems like a reasonable asking price. As stated above, if you use Ebay and Paypal, obviously you have a larger buyer audience, but you're gonna pay at least 100.00 in fees (assuming 800.00 sale price). Your Ebay feedback profile will greatly impact your sale price as well. If you did a buy it now for 800.00, it would run you 75 in fees.

On Craigslist of course there's no fees, but of course you have to deal with every looney that sees your ad (which you've probably already experienced) and the ridiculous lowball and trade offers that go with them. I'd be inclined to change the asking price to 900, then you have 100.00 worth of negotiating space to get the price you want.

Yeah Ebay takes too much money :L No to mention I also would need to get a box big enough. That is a last resort lol I'm still debating on trade offers I've gotten :)

Go to GC and see if they have an old box that a strat or case came in to mail it.

+1

I know a couple of the guys at my GC very well and they are more than happy to drag out a box or two if I ask them. They are usually nice, double-strength boxes, too.

I have learned by sad experiences that it is better to NOT sell guitars, especially if said guitars have given you joy.

That's just it as much as I love the sound and feel it just doesn't give me the joy of a Telecaster :(

Just an American Standard Telecaster. I'd really like one in sunburst ,but I'd consider other colors/finishes. I had to sell my first Tele to get the extra $600 I needed for a car awhile back and man do I regret it :( I bought the Strat because I loved how it looked and played plus it was made of ash ,but as I played it more and more I kept wishing it was a Tele and it just made me not enjoy playing it :( Stupid preferences I just want the next Tele I get to be the "right" Tele because I plan to just keep it until my death lol

I think you should Keep the Strat, apply for a sweetwater card and buy a Tele. I was able to get a card from them when GC or MF would not give me one. Plus they are a great place to buy a guitar from online. They actually set them up prior to shipping and will usually put on the kind of strings you want.

Well I've discovered Strats just aren't my thing. I'll wind up just never playing it. I'd much rather her to go a home where she'll be used. I feel every instrument should be used and broken in :)
