I know more than the average Joe when it comes to Fender guitars and bass's but I cant look at every one and differentiate unless its clear(ask me a Gibson related question and you'll get an answer lol). My father recently gave me this strat that he had got in trade a year or so ago, for fixing his Harley! Lucky me cause its the first modern Strat that I've owned that I love playing. Anyway I was wondering if anyone could tell me the exact model. I know from the Serial Number Z0 that is its a 2000/2001. Neck plate says Corona California. Has locking tuners, roller tree and a Duncan humbucker all of which im not certain are stock?

Guitar can be seen here, its the red one..first 8 pictures before the group shot of strats http://s1101.photobucket.com/albums/g43 ... tt/Guitar/

Looks like it could be a Fender Lonestar. If it is, the other 2 pickups are Texas Specials. The tuners wouldn't be orginal, but they're a straight swap.

The Lonestar is a Deluxe model no? This guitar does not have a D at the begging of the serial number. How do I identify the single coils?

Actually I think this one is an "American Series Texas Special Fat Strat" based on the single string tree and the body shape (more contoured). In July 2000 Fender updated the American Standards and changed the name to "American Series" and did some other tweaks like body shape, single string tree, rolled fingerboard edges, and some other things. At that time they renamed the "Lonestar" that long "American Series Texas Special Fat Strat". Both models would have Texas Special single coils and the Duncan Pearly Gates Plus humbucker.

Regarding the Texas Specials I believe they have some kind of marking on the bottom of the pickups that identify them but I'm not sure exactly what that marking is.

The Lonestar/"American Series Texas Special Fat Strat" were an extension of the regular series and not part of the American Deluxe series. Just as a "field spotter's guide" an American Deluxe would have a raised chrome headstock decal, chrome plated locking tuners, and chrome plated bridge saddles. The single coils on the HSS models would be some type of noiseless pickup - "Vintage Noiseless" with silver "noiseless" script on the covers from 1998-2003, SCNs with a raised "SCN" on the covers from 2004-2009, or the N3s with a silver "N3" logo on the cover from 2010 through now.

Yeah could be, but Lonestars after 1999 had a single string tree as well. And I know that color was one of the colors of the lonestar. I can't really tell the contours so can't say either way about that.

The guitar is new enough that you could send an email to Fender with the serial number and they can look it up, or maybe post it here and Rob from Fender might be able to look it up for you.

Thanks for the replies John and Jason. I'm finding images on google of "2000 Lonestars" with a single tree..but from what I read 99 was its last year and it would be the Texas Special for 00. Either way it puts me a lot closer. SN=Z0138096 Ill send an email a little later. I've got a set of Noiseless laying around, have them in my 70's RI and I love them so far(I have very little time on it and this guitar.) Any opinions on installing them over the Texas Specials?
