These are photos of my 1996 Fender Stratocaster # MN663531 MIM. I am trying to find out what the info on the neck and body mean.
Neck; 70226 w/ a white label that reads 1-7 with lines for each #
Body; M 50668 w/ "W " in red and "S" in blue
I am not sure what this means. I have been trying to find out what model this is. (I know it is a MIM 1996)

Hey stratwhore(nice handle btw)
They seem to be the stock tuners. The reason why I can't figure out what is up with this guitar is the mix of features. The neck has an older, smaller size headstock with the gold spaghetti logo and 1 string tree. The tuners are vintage style also. The neck has got a vintage tint to it, sort of yellow/tan in color. The frets are not vintage type, but med/jumbo size. Normally Fender puts dating info on the butt of the neck, but as you can see from the photos, the serial # and neck info don't match. It IS a Fender neck and body, for sure. I just never saw a vintage neck on an HSS set-up Strat. Could it have been one of those guitars that music stores "create" to sell a particular piece??? I also have never seen the red sparkle finish ANYWHERE on a Fender prior to this axe. It is a mystery!!!![/quote]

PS -

I'm in the same boat as you. I have no pics, and not many post, but I wanted to ask about the same information. Our guitars mirror each other minus the color and you have a "fatty" and I don't (3 sings). Everything you described matches what I'm searching for as well. That 5 digit # on the neck butt, and pocket. You have the 96 and I the 98.

I posted earlier my thoughts on what may be the case here, but you have a 96, and I was basing my info on Fender's restart in 98'. So my theory may be shot, but it helps to see that I'm not the only one. For the record, this guitar is incredible, the fretboard has an interesting look, I was hoping PF, it sure looks like, but I don't know. I have all the paperwork from Fender based on the serial #. I don't know about you, but I would NEVER get rid of it. And I still believe these are some of the instruments that came from the other side of the Pacific, with Ensenada numbers. I'd do a little research in the JV area. The letter in the pocket followed by a certain amount of numbers, etc. It may help connect the dots. Just my .02
