I bought a 2012 Am Std Tele a few months ago and LOVE it. It's my first tele, and in fact the first tele I've played for any length of time. I've been playing for about 20 years and feel like I've missed out on the guitar that could've been the best fit for me, feel-wise. I always avoided them because I was a rock guy and always lumped teles in with country music. Well, now that I'm older, my musical tastes have mellowed and changed, and I bought myself the nicest guitar I own.

Now I've never really bonded well with my 1999 Am Std Strat, and am looking at buying a new one. Does anyone know if the current 2012 strat and tele necks are the same specs as each other? The nut width appears to be the same, but I'm curious about width as it progresses up the neck, and depth of the "modern C" on each.

Best thing to do is to go in to a store and try one, see how it feels. Then you'll know if it's for you

If it were only that easy. I live in a small town without that opportunity unfortunately. I gotta pay close attention to specs and reviews and go from there.

The tele neck seems to feel a bit thinner than the strat neck, and the tele fretboard has a flatter feel than the strats, even though the radius and profile are the same.

I like them both, which is probably why I have 3 teles and a strat.

Having just bought a Americans standard Strat myself I can tell you that having tryed several copies of both that the neck feel to me was identical. For me I went with the Strat because it just spoke to me the minute i plugged it in. The Tele was very nice as well and if your taste and style of music is such I'm confident you will be pleased with it.

I pulled the trigger on the strat with the hopes they're similar. If not, not a huge deal, I can adapt to small differences, but I'm hoping it's the same as my 2012 tele. I freaking love that guitar and hope I feel as fondly towards my new maple neck strat too!

What are the chances they release any new colors for the 2013 line? I took advantage of the $100 rebate, but I was fighting the urge to wait and see the 2013 lineup changes. I put my wager on no changes and went for the $100 rebate while the offer was there.

I received my strat yesterday and am a big fan of it. The neck is pretty similar to the 2012 tele, and much different than the 1999 american strat I sold last week.

My only gripe is that it has a thicker coat of finish on the actual fretboard than the tele making it a bit slower and stickier on slides etc. Whats the best way to treat the fretboard to remove some of the finish to speed it up a bit?

I have a matching pair of 2012s, a Strat and a Tele, and even though the neck carves are supposed to be the same the Tele is just slightly thicker. Really, really close but I can tell the difference. I had an '04 American Strat that I sold after buying these and the neck was quite a bit thinner.

Try one out. There maybe a few differences over the years, but its a feel thing. Check out a few and decide from there.
