I was in a store the other day and coming from one of the sound booths was Stairway to Heaven, played more remarkably badly than you could believe. It really was spectacular.

Raising an eyebrow, I said to the guy behind the counter; "I haven't heard Stairway in a guitar shop for a while". Without a trace of humour on his face he replied quietly; "I have".

And in the instant of those two bleak words the whole horrible misery of that gentleman's working life was suddenly spread before me. So let's all spare a moment's sympathy for the sad existance of guitar shop assistants.

There, stop. That's enough sympathy.

No wait. Having to listen to Stairway that often is cruel and unusual punishment. He deserves combat pay. Ok. That was enough sympathy.

I'm a No Stairway Zone. I haven't played it in probably a decade and I can only stand listening to it once every two or three years.

I have no sypathy! If you don't want to listen to poor guitar players, get a job as a Caddy! Or perhaps a Burger King manager is more appealing, then all he'd have to get tired of is the sound of the Fryer Alarm, and the smell of Fast Food.

But then, the folks at my nearest Guitar Center asked me to play "Stairway" on the new Ovation VXT. They practically insisted.

“Ever walk into a music store and say, "I'm going to play all of your strats!" Last Saturday I did just that.” --murdochart

Be very, very careful doing that! Those things are like puppies; a few Saturdays ago, one followed me home. :D

Hi all, I’ve been getting a kick out of reading your posts on the forum. This seems like a very friendly and useful forum, and I hope to contribute to that in the future.

haha nice. For a second I actually felt bad for the guy. All he needs to do is put a "No Stairway" sign up like ine Wayne's World... lol
