Nice tuners - I kind of like it in a *twisted* kind of way. :D

Indeed. If it's a real MIM body and someone wants one that's routed for a Floyd then £50 / $80 is not bad. New neck, new pickguard - you might land a playable guitar for reasonable money.

Though one way or another it's a fabulous example of the maxim that mods invariably lower the value of a guitar.

Meantime, I wonder where that neck came from? Doing that binding round the headstock is not super advanced luthiery - but it's not beginner stuff either. Making the binding go up the curve to the nut takes a certain amount of skill. As project guitars go...well, it's unusual, at any rate.

Anyhow. I believe a guy with the right level of determination could carve a six-on-a-side peghead out of that timber...

Cheers - C

Do you reckon that's a floyd on there ceri? It looks quite bulky...

I was only half joking when I said I was tempted to buy it though, it could be worth saving. The body looks okay. My guess is it's a paddle headstock blank which has been fettled and I agree there's probably enough wood left to make it look right. But yeah, 50 quid for a MIM body would be a decent deal on its own, but of course that's a gamble. If I lived nearer I'd probably go check it out! I'd have to have a beer or two first of course, it probably looks ever uglier in the flesh

Hi Nobby: I'm sure you're right in what you're implying. It's not really a Floyd is it? More of a sub-Floyd generic locking vibrato. It looks like it's actually a Fender-ish shaped bridge plate with six mounting screws but also some chunky saddle adjusters on the back. Blowed if I can find a bridge quite like it out there amongst the parts sellers, but I sure haven't checked them all.

Maybe someone here recognises the model?

...So I guess the buyer might want to swap out the bridge as well as the homemade pickguard!

You'd think so. But again, mystery thickens when you start trying to source it. The paddle headstocks I can find have 21 frets and I'm not sure there's quite enough timber to squeeze this very wide peghead out of (DWMusic's paddle neck, for example). Curiouser and curiouser.

I'm damn certain I'm not driving all that way for this guitar!!!

As a great man said; I'd do anything for the Fender Forum, but I won't do that.

I suppose you could alternatively catch a bus, or possibly a train?

That's sacrilege,a complete abomination. His picture should be forwarded to every guitar dealer in the country with the words "Don't sell this tool a Fender....or any guitar for that matter".I just would like to know what would possess someone to do such a thing to a perfectly good and functional guitar. If he wanted a Strat style guitar with a 3 on a side headstock there are plenty around that are made that way,my daughters gave me one a few years ago for my birthday and it's a great guitar even though it was quite cheap.

With all the rain we've been having here in the UK recently, you could use that guitar headstock as a paddle and row back home after buying it

Hahaha - no comment!

If Fender screwed those tuners on I'm a Dutchman. A Dutchman with a huge house and a fleet of supercars. And a private island. And Michelle Pfeiffer in the kitchen fixing my drinks. Am I getting my point across?

And if that paint wear came from anything other than a half-blind drunkard wielding a turbo-charged orbital sander - well, see above.

Still, if someone has twenty grand they'd urgently like to be parted from... PM me and I'll see if I can help.

Anyhow, Knobby. Location: Basildon. Gonna pay that guitar a visit?

Cheers - C

Crikey how do these peeps sleep at night? Looks like the kind of headstock (ie neck) youd find on an 82 "Smith" stratocaster.
