Hi there,

I really dig my deluxe strat with S1-switching with one exception: that some kind weird position 5 (S1 engaged). Is there an easy way to change that into neck + bridge pu in parallel?

Thanks in advance

I don't really know anything about the S-1 switching system, but I know that you can set up a by-pass from the bridge to the neck position. I have this set up on my '79 Strat.

Unless you are knowlegeable about working on guitars I would take it to someone who is.

Hi _guitarman and welcome to the forum. I'm learning but still in the Electronics for Dummies stage so I can't address your wiring question. What I can tell you is that my initial reaction was probably similar to yours.

If your ADStrat is like mine then with the S1 switch engaged and the selector switch in position 5 (furthest from the bridge), we have:

    Neck pickup OUT OF
    PHASE & PARALLEL
    Middle, Bridge Picup
    IN SERIES

When I first heard this tone I thought to myself, how useless but then came to realize that this isn't really true. Firstly the sound changes significantly depending on the amp being used, more so than any other setting with or without the S1 engaged. Secondly I found that the S1/Pos 5 sound of the ADStrat yields some interesting colors when played through a pedal, especially a high gain pedal.

What I would suggest is that you give the S1/Pos 5 sound a second chance and determine if you would like to keep it onboard or not.

HTH

Cheers!
BM
