I have a walnut finished Japanese fender stratocaster serial number Q017849 with a rosewood fingerboard, 2 dimarzio humbuckers (neck & bridge) and 1 single coil pickup 22 frets equipped with gold gotoh tuners and an original floydrose bridge( gold )... this guitar was given to me when i was a kid way back 1995 by a family friend from japan.. I would like to find the model number of my guitar.. can anyone help me? thank you very much

Hello jdecastro420, welcome to the Forum.

I don't hold out a lot of hope for you finding an actual model number for that guitar. Fender Japan turns out all kinds of Strats with unusual combinations of features, sometimes in smallish batches that don't last for long. Yours will no doubt be a variation on their base ST-STD model, but whether they even gave it its own number... who knows?

We know that Fender US don't keep a database of what their Japanese partners get up to, so unless Fender Japan do have records going back to the mid-'90s and you speak good enough Japanese to talk to them about it I have a feeling you'll be out of luck.

However, there is one possible way you might make a small amount of progress. If you remove the neck and look inside the neck pocket you may find a number stamped there. Like in this photo:



Fender Japan often stamp the model number in that position, and sometimes on the neck heel as well. But equally often they don't: I happen to have my CIJ '57 Reissue in pieces on my workbench at this moment and there are no numbers either on the neck or in the pocket. It should say ST-57... but it doesn't.

Luckily I bought it new and know what it is - but even if I didn't, how much would it matter? If you do happen to find some letters and numbers in your neck pocket is it going to leave you feeling much the wiser?

Last thing you could do is have a check around Fender Japan's website and see if you find a guitar like yours:

I'm not seeing an HSH Strat there at present - but maybe I missed it.

A tip for navigating that website if your written Japanese ain't so hot: if you mouseover a link its title in English will appear in the bottom left corner of your browser window, which often gives a handy clue as to what you're looking at.
